Hey CodeForces,
Last year I was a TA in AddisCoder, a non-profit 4-week course to teach programming to the best high schoolers in Ethiopia, some of the alumni have gone to Harvard, MIT or Stanford.
As a TA I was there from July 21st to August 22nd (we went one week before the course started to prepare materials, get to know each other and visit Ethiopia!). The role of a TA is to answer 1:1 questions from the students in lab, with the goal of making sure each student grasps the concepts and can go through the exercises by themselves. Some of the typical questions are: Why this doesn't work? I don't understand X, or if X happens why doesn't Y happen? etc.
My experience there was amazing, the TAs became very close and really good friends, we had tons of fun together, and with the students too! Another thing we really enjoyed was Ethiopian culture, there were some traditional restaurants that we used to go that showed them and was really fun.
The same program is also available in Jamaica (JamCoders), I haven't been there but I still strongly recommend it.
This is the practical information, I really encourage you to apply!
- Both application deadlines are Dec 31st, though earlier applications are preferred. Applications websites are: (https://www.addiscoder.com/#apply) (AddisCoder) and http://jamcoders.org.jm/#apply (JamCoders)
- The cost of flights, housing, local transportation, and meals are fully covered for both programs.
- Each is a 5-week commitment. Dates are TBD, but JamCoders is likely to be June, 2025-10-06 29-July 31, and AddisCoder is likely to be July,2025-10-06 27 to August 22.
Here are some pictures about the program, and if you have any question feel free to reach me out!
