Caylex's blog

By Caylex, history, 17 months ago, In English

I submitted the code 294052353 during 2034D - Darius' Wisdom, and today I received a penalty notification. It stated that my code is identical to that of xyz__31, Im_the_God_Coder_KM, Wali05, and encernwala. I did not share my code with anyone. I suspect that these four individuals are from India (the first two mentioned their nationality on their profiles), and one of them likely accessed my code through the post-solution hack feature after solving the problem and then shared it with the others. I believe this inference is reasonable, as there have been numerous blogs on CF highlighting such behaviors by some individuals from India.

For example:

Why is there so much cheating in Contests in India ? Especially on CodeChef?

And many others.

Based on the above, I don’t think I should receive this penalty. Could you please revoke it?

294072586

294076621

294077406

294078338

The four records above are the submission histories of these four participants.

Only punish those who are not the first to submit their codes. This may be better.

But if the first submitter intentionally leaked the code, they also violated the rules and should be punished.

one possible fix is that if a person solution is leaked in multiple contest in a short span of time (say, their solutions have been copied in 3 contests in a single month), then it is extremely likely for them to intentionally distribute their code.

don't worry, your submission is not affected here, it still sucks though

Maybe instead of explicitly mentioning a country, you could have kept the discussion limited to cheaters and cheating.

I support you! It's important to bring attention to such issues for a fair competitive environment. I hope the admins review your case thoroughly

Hi, you didn’t receive any penalties. Sometimes, you might see a message about code similarity when the system detects similar code. However, in such cases, it recognizes that you didn’t cheat or share your code. We’ll resolve this issue soon.

Why the post solution hack feature is not being disabled?? Can't we have a short hacking phase after the contest kind of thing(in div2s like div3/4 and educational rounds).

Not supporting anyone and can't conclude anything definite from this, but the only person who locked D in your room is xxh1999. Not Indian according to their profile, interesting.

First, we cannot rule out the possibility that xxh1999 provided help to these four cheaters.

Second, a more reasonable guess is that someone who was in my room might have been kicked out of the contest because they copied someone else’s code. As a result, their records during the contest are no longer visible in my room. I starred Im_the_God_Coder_KM and found that his submissions during the contest cannot be seen on the friends' leaderboard. This indicates that those who are skipped are removed from the contest.

My bad, didn't know they get kicked out of rooms too after getting skipped. But then, how would the person who submitted first among them have access to your code before locking their submission, someone else must've provided it to them, Or the one who provided also got skipped due to some other submission. Only the admins can find if someone else locked too now I guess.
