We have several openings for fully-funded Master of Philosophy (MPhil) positions in Financial Technology at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Guangzhou Campus. We welcome candidates with a bachelor's degree in computing, mathematics or any other related STEM field. This is a research-focused master's program in which the students will devote the vast majority of their time to research and only a small portion to passing graduate courses. The research itself will be focused on algorithmic and formal aspects of Blockchains and Cryptocurrencies, including game-theoretic security analysis. Therefore, we prefer candidates who have demonstrated research experience or a track record of excellent performance in competitive programming or mathematical/informatics olympiads. The working language of HKUST is English. The normal duration of an MPhil is 2 years.
Successful candidates will become members of our Software Verification and Analysis (SVA) research group at HKUST and advised by Amir Goharshady. We are a truly international research group with members from Austria, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Czechia, Egypt, India, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. You are clearly a troll, but I'll answer anyway.
We admit students from both Russia and Ukraine, and anywhere else in the world for that matter. We only have academic criteria and our interviews are focused on whether you can solve algorithmic/mathematical problems. Why on earth would we discriminate against Russian or Ukrainian students who had absolutely nothing to do with and no choice in this war?
By the way, the deadline for this program (FinTech) has passed. We still have openings for MPhil/PhD in Computer Science, though.
