On the today's round I noticed something peculiar about Rating Changes. Particularly, let's compare my rating change and the change of a user taking 166th place.

  • My final position in the ranking is 151 and their is 166.
  • My rating before the round was 2378 and their was 2370.
  • My delta was +8, and their was +35.
  • My rating after the round is 2382 and their is 2405.

The interesting thing is the apparent lack of monotonicity. Finishing at higher position and starting with higher rating may not necessairly mean higher final rating.

Any thoughts?

I guess it has to do with the fact that this was his 6th contest and you get more rating change than usual in the first 6 contests according to the latest rating system to stabilize your rating quickly.

    Interesting observation. Seems plausible. Thanks!

Your heatmap is exactly like that of the guy she told me not to worry about.

I think this explains it: https://mirror.codeforces.com/blog/entry/77890

This means that this account's true rating was already at Grandmaster (2420) after 5 contests but here they lost 15 points.
