Maybe you are right.
IMHO the presence of β sign doesn't depend on anybody's tastes. It just means that Codeforces is in active development, its functionality is not final yet.
I do not think CF team have any plans of making it "final" in the nearest future. Most of enterprises and businesses nowadays should evolve continuously to remain afloat.
Then we can use gamma γ :)
I prefer ξ (Xi) — there are not too many people who can write it!
