Neapolis University Pafos

Hello Codeforces!

We are pleased to announce a new long-term partnership between Codeforces and Neapolis University Pafos. Now educational rounds will be supported by Neapolis University Pafos. Stay tuned and you will find out more soon.

On Mar/15/2024 17:35 (Moscow time) Educational Codeforces Round 163 (Rated for Div. 2) will start.

This round will be rated for the participants with rating lower than 2100. It will be held on extended ICPC rules. The penalty for each incorrect submission until the submission with a full solution is 10 minutes. After the end of the contest, you will have 12 hours to hack any solution you want. You will have access to copy any solution and test it locally.

You will be given 6 or 7 problems and 2 hours to solve them.

The problems were invented and prepared by Adilbek adedalic Dalabaev, Ivan BledDest Androsov, Maksim Neon Mescheryakov, Roman Roms Glazov and me. Also, huge thanks to Mike MikeMirzayanov Mirzayanov for great systems Polygon and Codeforces.

Big thanks to the testers shnirelman and Optoed for their valuable advice and suggestions! Special thanks to Vladosiya for his help with the round.

UPD: Unfortunately, there were issues with the problem E judgement during the contest. There were only 18 participants affected by it, so the round stays rated. Rated participants whose verdict on problem E changed may request unrated participation (they have received the directions on how to change their participation to unrated). If you have not received any personal notifications about it in the contest dashboard, you have not been affected.

      i am already aware of that thread. It is true that there is something subtle going on (probably related to the Windows heap). What I take issue is that we're just banning c++20.

      Whatever the problem may be, it is only affecting a small minority of all submissions. Straight up removing the compilers just creates larger inconveniences. We can make this issue known and those who are concerned may choose to use different compilers for c++.

      Back when Java's Arrays.sort was quadratic time, we didn't just ban the language. We're not banning pypy for being slower python with Fraction either.

        If submitting in C++20 is causing performance degradatinos for other users' submissions, that's a separate discussion. Then I agree removing C++20 would make sense. However, such things should at least be properly announced

          This issue is different: - As far as I know, the scope of the issue is not well understood. The issue is with variable length allocation, which appears in many submissions. I don't think it's fair to say that it affects only a small minority of submissions--only that a small minority of submissions have been shown to be problematic.

          • The inconvenience created by removing a compiler is substantially less than the inconvenience created by removing a language.

          • We can expect contestants to be familiar with the language itself, so it's fine to penalize contestants who use slow APIs from the standard library. It's generally not expected for contestants to be familiar with the details of a compiler, and less so with the operating system internals (which is most probably where the error lies).

          Unless this changes, and the build system is made completely public, it's actually the fault of the Codeforces platform for building on a system with this type of unexpected slowdown. So the correct thing to do is remove the compiler until the issue is resolved.

            I agree with most of what you said. However, I don't think the logical conclusion is to remove the compiler (which happens to remove the language c++20 entirely). I agree that it is the fault of the Codeforces platform, but they could just keep c++20 and admit there is a fault in the system. Instead, they decide to hide it by removing the language. I see no issue with a caveat along the lines of "we tried, but use at your own risk because we run code on windows".

    If any index $$$i$$$ is part of the latter half of a tandem repeat of length $$$2j$$$, then $$$a_i = a_{i - j}$$$ (considering '?' as equal to anything) must hold, lets say $$$good_{i, j} = 1$$$ if this is satisfied for a given $$$(i, j)$$$ and $$$0$$$ otherwise. We can clearly calculate these values of $$$good_{i, j}$$$ in $$$O(n^2)$$$ time.

    Then any index $$$i$$$ to be the start of the second half of a tandem repeat of length $$$2j$$$, $$$good_{k, j} = 1$$$ must hold for all $$$i \leq k \leq i + j - 1$$$. This can be checked in $$$O(1)$$$ by storing prefix sums of $$$good_{i, j}$$$ or in a total of $$$O(n)$$$ over all $$$i$$$ by just iterating in decreasing order of $$$i$$$ and keeping track of the most recent pos $$$p$$$ where $$$good_{p, j} = 0$$$.

    So for each $$$1 \leq j \leq \lfloor \frac{n}{2} \rfloor$$$, we just iterate on $$$i$$$ in decreasing order and check all possible tandem repeats in $$$O(n^2)$$$ time.

how to solve b ? I iterated over numbers and kept an array of pairs which holds the options available for the previous number which are leave it as it is or do the operation on it and based on this info I can decide for the current number what I can do for it but this was wrong

    1. Always break the first number (except if its digits are in desc order), as its a no-brainer.
    2. Try if the next number in array can be broken and sorting order is maintained. If yes, keep going otherwise you can't break.
    3. At end check if new array is sorted or not.

        Suppose you are at str[0][i] then you can go to str[0][i+2] if str[0][i+1]=='>' OR you can go to str[1][i+1] if str[1][i]=='>'. The same is applicable to str[1][i].

        This is the basic concept.

        And for the dp part -->

        Initially you are at str[0][0] position, which is true. Now while traversing both row at the same time if you encounter '>' then you will check the dp value of previous coloumn of the same row and the same coloumn of other row. If any of these holds true, then you can go to the next coloumn of the current row.

I found that the problems, up until E, weren't particularly interesting, they were more of implementation. I'm unsure if my solution for E was what was expected, I believe the constraints could have been tougher, since we can prove that no clique size can be greater than K and that there is a construction in which K size clique is possible.

    Yes was confused between that robot have to reach last block(2,n) after performing both the operations OR robot have to just touch the last block

    P.S. robot have to reach last block after performing both the actions is correct way for C

    Interesting -- apparently this is caused by a bug in the compiler. I also could reproduce the error with custom tests. Meanwhile I could avoid the error by moving the definition of vis to global (and initialize them appropriately).

    By C++ standard you can't declare an array of variable length. The size of it must be constant expression (known during compilation). However, there are compiler extensions that allow them, but anyways compiler is not obligated to have them. It seems that this particular version doesn't. Or it doesn't support boolean arrays of variable length explicitly. In any case this can't be considered a bug.

      I tried resubmitting the same solution, replacing the array type from bool to int 251558731. Evidently, the type of the array does not seem to matter in this case. Later this contest I submitted 251491928, which also uses arrays of variable size, but doesn't get CE. Just curious what exactly causes the bug, because the compiler logs aren't very helpful

    It seems to me that it has to do with the ordering of the dimensions in terms of constants. Simply changing the definition from $$$vis[2][n]$$$ to $$$vis[n][2]$$$ resolved the issue

    Presented arrangment of values really allows to relate 4th index for both cliques, but we don't need it to be in both cliques the same time (since we need splitting, not coverage of graph)

    So we choose to relate it to first clique and leave second clique without it (which doesn't prevent the remnants of the second clique from still being a clique)

    There are 40*80 distinct testcases, and there are 5 test files (1 sample and 4 hidden).
    I believe system tests do cover all the distinct testcases.
    The only hack possible should be TLEs by repeating the same test if someone is doing some bruteforces.

For problem E, case n = 5 and k = 4, this assignment gets accepted:

a[1] = 2, a[2] = 1, a[3] = 4, a[4] = 3, a[5] = 5

c[1] = 1, c[2] = 1, c[3] = 1, c[4] = 1, c[5] = 2

even though the node 3 the is in both cliques (1, 2, 3, 4) and (3, 5).

I guess a pair is not counted as a clique, but the definition in the problem does not specify this.

    It is not in both cliques. You define cliques by the array c. c[3] has exactly one value, thus it is in exactly one clique. The constraint is that the nodes you mark with the same id really form a clique, not that those are all the cliques in the graph.

I couldn't understand one thing, official and unofficial standings are same,but since it was rated for <=2100 ,shouldn't they be different?plz correct/help

    for div 3s and div 4s, only "trusted participants" are included in the official standings but it will be rated for <= 1600 and <= 1400 respectively. there's no such restriction for this one so everyone's included in the official standings but it will be only be rated for <= 2100
