Yay!!! I just became specialist!!!!

I am writing this blog to share my happiness with you all wonderful, genius, amazing and hard-working people on Codeforces. I became a specialist after today's contest. I know this isn't that big of an achievement but I am so happy that I just wanted to share this happiness.

As of now I only know C++ STL, binary search, basic number theory and basic bitwise operators. What topics should I study next and what resources should I follow? Also please share your practice strategy like how much time do you give on a question and if you are unable to solve, after how much time you look upto editorial??

congrats first but how i see that you reached pupil after only solving one problem in a div2 edu which was 950 performance,seems like cf ratings are bugging

    codeforces rating doesn't decrease in your first 5 contests even if you solve 0 questions...

        That just means they did even better on the prior contests. Note that one's initial true rating is 1400, and after 3 contests the displayed rating is -300 of the true rating, while after 4 contests it's -150. So you can conclude that their true rating was 1466 after first 3 contests, and 1366 after the 4th one, which is in fact -100 delta on the true rating but with the 150 bonus in displayed rating it's shown as +50 delta.

If you want to get a higher rating, here is my advice.

  1. I would not talk about topics because, like, see todays contest. There is no real topic there (not something really specific needed to have a high performance, I mean)

  2. The most important thing you need in order to get a high performance is speed. Compare yourself with people with the rating you want to achieve. As for today's contests, I would say you wasted a lot of time on A, B, and C problems, not talking about D. But it's completely normal. What I mean is that if you improve your speed, at least in those first 3 problems which not require any topic, just literal experience, you can save up to 40 minutes. The same thing with D. And that will give you time to think and solve problem E which again has no specific topic but if you have trained with enough problems, you could eventually solve.

  3. As for training, take those easy problems and start to check the time it takes, why it took so long? How could you have done it faster?, may it be by coding better, or by thinking more, or both.

  4. Look for your weaknesses, keep trying to solve at least Div2 D, and you will finally encounter some topics that will tackle you. Don't be afraid to do your best, then surrender after 30 minutes of no improvement. But try.

  5. Sorry for bad english, and let's see if next sunday my strategy works. UPD: It worked :))
