It's been a long day without you, Codeforces!

We are glad to invite you to take part in Codeforces Round 969 (Div. 2) and Codeforces Round 969 (Div. 1), which will start on Aug/30/2024 17:35 (Moscow time). You will be given 6 problems and 2 hours and 30 minutes to solve them in both divisions.

The problems are authored by LMydd0225, tzl_Dedicatus545, _FJqwq, Ternary_Tree_ and me wyrqwq and mostly prepared by LMydd0225. One of the problems is also prepared by DitaMirika.

We would like to thank:

Hope you will enjoy the problems!

Score Distribution:

  • Div. 2: $$$500 - 750 - 1000 - 1500 - 2250 - 2750$$$;
  • Div. 1: $$$750 - 1250 - 1500 - 2000 - 2500 - 3000$$$.

badges$$$^\dagger$$$ of the authors:

$$$^\dagger$$$: Began in 2022 at NOI Shanghai, Badge Exchanging has been an activity popular among Chinese CPers. The host school for NOI 2022 decided to print badges containing the avatar of contestants for the contestants, and one can exchange his or her badge with another. The collection of one's badges (of other CPer's avatars) shows the group of CPers that he has met and even made friends offline. It has achieved great success. And since then, it has been a tradition for years.

Subtasks are good though because if you normally solve n problems with subtasks you you might have a chance to solve n+1 (or n+0.5) problems. And normally I have noticed the first subtasks of problem n is either of the same level or slightly easier than problem n-1.

Score distribution looks really odd. I think it would go something like this, wouldn't it?:

  • Div2: Div2A — Div2B — Div2C — Div2D/Div1A — Div2E/Div1C — Div2F/Div1D
  • Div1: Div2D/Div1A — Div1B — Div2E/Div1C — Div2F/Div1D — Div1E — Div1F

Btw, the badge custom is really cool, I wish I could have done the same when I was younger T.T

I’m sorry, but as a tester, this round is a typical stereotyped Chinese round. Something further could contain spoiler, so I will not describe the problems.

This doesn’t mean problems are bad. Problems themselves are good, but I am not sure those form an ideal Codeforces round. If you are a fundamentalism like me, this round might be tough for you.

However as a elo-based rating system, you can still enjoy competing with this problemset, wish everyone GL&HF!

"Neutral I liked the problems" Ah the perfect neutral statement

UPD : people pointed out neutral is associated with the first part only, regardless of that it is an extremely weird and bad rule to have positive comments allowed but not negative comments

If one is fine, so is the other

You wont believe the number of times i have wanted to write that i dislike the problems of some round i tested

But i held back, because of these stupid guidelines. How is it only allowed to write "this is the best round of my life" under every announcement. Either allow both opinions or neither

You are invited to test a round, then it means you are trusted. You can talk in the discord server, with coordinator and authors, about yout unsatisfactory with the problems. I don't see any reason to post such negative comments of the round before it ends. If you still have the same idea, it would be better for you to stop testing rounds. :)

why is positive feedback allowed then?

A lot of people think no feedback is fine. I am fine with that position.

YOU CANNOT ALLOW POSITIVE FEEDBACK WHILE DISALLOWING NEGATIVE FEEDBACK.

When people see positive comments, they may be disillusioned into participating

This is not a real argument

If you want, ban both (which seems to be the predominant view by other people)

I think the core idea is, any contestant is completely not allowed to know anything related to the actual problems of the round. In this way, this comment does violate the rule. Anyway I'm considering your opinion.

Probably it’s time to end this thread…

Firstly it was 100% my bad for not reading this document(I have no ideas why I haven’t received this in my previous ~5 testing), so I apologize and hope this comment will be removed soon.

I remember that I saw this kind of comments before(both positive and negative). Allow both or ban both are great ideas, the main goal is prevent problem leaking before the contest but not disillusioning participants.

With the current rules, I am going to follow because I want to keep competing. Let’s discuss the problems after the contest. Sorry to everyone.

Ok i agree that comment does violate the rules

But i think the "best round ever" also does except for the fact that there are so many people who just write it for contribution.

I was arguing that "I dislike the problems" should be allowed because "I liked the problems is allowed"

But i now see that neither should be as indeed they give a lot of hints

If i said i liked the round, most people who know me would immediately know what to expect from the round, which is also unfair.

I dislike that the rule specifically allows positive comments which is almost as much hinting towards the type of problems as negative comments

Often times, coordinators dont listen to you due to several reasons, the most important being its too late to change much

testers may feel a problem is standard but still they get used. I will leave it at tbat

I agree that negative comments should not be allowed though as they may give hints to the problem type. I disagree that positive comments should be. They give similiar amount of hints when done by real people (fake being those who comment "this is the best round")

I think it is inappropriate to use rhetorical questions to question and deny a serious tester's evaluation. You cannot only allow the existence of positive evaluations. In addition, I think what he said is also reasonable. The competition of Chinese people is "typical Chinese style", which is obviously reasonable. In addition, I don't think it's a 'negative comment'. He just expressed his personal opinion, which is the true meaning of the test. If the comments are all in the form of 'this game is great', then these comments are meaningless and different voices should be allowed to exist.Regarding what you said "I don't see any reason to post such negative comments of the round before it ends. " I think the reason for allowing players of different levels to test and evaluate is to try to nip in the bud the points that may cause negative feedback from players, so that players in formal competitions can have a better competition experience. Thank you for reading.

Sorry, after carefully reading the rules, I believe that any evaluation of the competition is not allowed. But I still believe that saying 'good problems' and' bad problems' should be treated equally.

I would like to say something if I were not the author, but unfortunately I am. So let's stop discussing this comment until the contest is over (and I'm afraid it will be deleted soon).

Anyway: If you are going to criticize Codeforces, you don't have to say it on Codeforces; If you are going to criticize me for the problems that I have proposed (and the coordinators, the coauthors, the testers, and so on), do it after contest.
