CP is a subset of math. Many useful observations in CP like looking at global/local structures, trying extreme cases, etc. you can learn them from math OIs. To me, it is clear that having a good math background gives you a head start. When I joined this website in 2019, I became blue in a couple of contests. I did have some math training prior to that.
