Greetings, Codeforces Community!

We are thrilled to invite you to CodeFest, a premier competitive programming event brought to you by IICPC, co-sponsored by Citadel and Jump Trading, Associate sponsors as Jane Street, Hudson River Trading (HRT), Landeed and QuantInsti being the Knowledge Partner.

The camp is being hosted by the 8 IITs namely Madras, Delhi, Bombay, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kharagpur, Roorkee and Indore and we are grateful for the same!

You can check our event announcement video here.

Inspiration

In late 2024, Ayush and I were wondering what could be done next to improve the Competitive Programming Culture around us. That is when we realised that India is very short of good quality competitive programming contests. The last India specific large contest we had was CodeChef Snackdown which was unfortunately discontinued.

With an aim to have more exciting and enriching contests in India, we decided to host CodeFest, and we are very happy that we along with the team are here today to invite you for the same.

Details

Codefest is a 3 stage Individual Contest:

  • Stage 1 (Prelims) : To be held on Codechef on 12th February 8pm IST
  • Stage 2 (Offline Regionals) : 2 Multisite Regionals to be held across 8 IITs.
  • Stage 3 (Grand Finale) : To be held in Research Park IIT Madras on 5th April while 6th April 2025 is booked for recruitment round for the firms interested in students through an interview process.

Note : Accomodation for Regionals would have to be managed. For Grand Finale, we have booked good accomodation for all the finalist. We recommend you to pick your closest Regional Center as preference in the registeration form.

Qualification

There are 400 slots in the Regionals and 50 for the Finals.

  • (Prelims to Regionals Qualification) : In the CodeChef Contest, all divisions will have all problems. Top 400 over the aggregate ranklist will move on to the Offline Regionals.
  • (Regionals to Finale Qualification) : Top 25 participants from each of the 2 regionals will move on the the Grand Finale.

Goodies and Prizes

We want to make this event very memorable for each and every participant so we have decided to have the following prizes:

  • 1st Prize: ₹1,00,000
  • 2nd Prize: ₹75,000
  • 3rd Prize: ₹50,000

I am following these guys since IICPC has started. These guys are really doing a very good initiative in India, by promoting competitive programing. In India, CP is not very famous among people. These guys are increasing the culture of competitive programing in India. In India, I have found only 2 good organisms teaching high level CP, one is TLE Eliminators and other are these guys. However, TLE Eliminators course is very very expensive. Also, only available for 8 months after purchase. But these have provided premium content free on YouTube and also helping students to connect with companies like Citadel, Jane Street, etc. Hat's of to you guys !!

I don't mean to disrespect the people at IICPC. I am just telling about two organisations teaching CP in India which I find are good. I have always found IICPC better than TLE Eliminators. I am sorry if that didn't come in good way. Again, I am just a neutral person sharing my perspective and not biased towards someone.

How do you plan to handle cheating for the prelims. In the recent Enigma'25 Cybros LNMIIT there was a lot of cheating. Since there are job opportunities in this a lot of people will try to cheat and even unfairly quality for the offline regionals taking spots from deserving people. Ofcourse cheaters won't do well in the offline regionals to qualify for the finals but we cannot expect such reasoning from sub 70 IQ losers.

I am mainly worried about high rated people like the Abhipsita Das sharing code with others which might lead to cheaters flooding the rank list. I don't think online prelims is a good idea for this reason.

oh yeah. Something similar happened in ICPC. So many cheated to qualify and couldn't even solve a single question in regionals. It's better if every single round is offline.

Unfortunately thats not feasible. But yeah, low IQ scums are gonna cheat because its the only option they have. Even when they know they will get fucked over in regionals. They are gonna put "IiCpC ReGioNaLiSt" in their resume similar to how they put "IcPc ReGiOnAlIsT".

We didn't know the contest would generate this much interest. This year unfortunately we wont be able to have it open for international participants mainly because we don't know the complications of hosting international participants and we want to provide the best experience. With that being said, next year definitely we can try to have some dedicated slots for international participants.

But we can't let talent go empty handed. So we are announcing top 5 prizes for international participants in prelims:

    • 1st Place. ₹12.5k
    • 2nd Place. ₹6k
    • 3rd Place. ₹3k
    • 4th Place. ₹1.5k
    • 5th Place. ₹1.5k

you guys should reconsider conducting online prelims. o3-mini is too powerful. Just killed todays c and d in 2 minutes. Top 400 will be flooded with cheaters. Not even masters can compete against o3-mini.

Currently, we are not equipped with the infrastructure to conduct an offline round for our 10,000+ registrants, but we can ensure that every effort is being made to provide the best problem set and the fairest competition. We have had rigorous testing for our problems by both humans and the latest models, and are only selecting the problems that pass our benchmarks.

Apart from that, after the prelims, the IICPC panel will be having a detailed discussion and any cases of plagiarism will be dealt with seriously. During registrations for regionals, IICPC Pvt. Ltd. retains the right to take legal action under Madras High Court against those participants who are found guilty of plagiarism at any stage of CodeFest'25.

Solutions upto even the 6th question were leaked on telegram. This is exactly why online prelims is a bad idea. Imagine if there were an online prelims for JEE and NEET. lol. so many deserving candidates would be left out.

Ok and? What the fuck do you want them to do? Not host the contest at all? Like think with your brain instead of always ranting.

Exactly what do you expect them to do?????

I expect them to take payment from people who are interested in participating and conduct the contests in offline mode by using infra of companies like TCS that are already conducting large scale offline exams. Online prelims are a joke. No serious exams/tests should be conducted online.

JEE is a requirement. This is not. Do you really expect people to travel thousands of kilometers to reach the 10 — 20 centres? Do you know how much of an organizational difficulty that would be (already is i think)?

If you take 400 participants from prelims, optimistically at most 3-4000 participants will show up. Is that enough to book big centres (and be worth the cost)?

Why dont you host the event instead? Be glad for good things

Seeing So much cheating, 400 is a very small numbers and many cheaters are sure to be filtered here even after plag check giving only about 100-200 seats to deserving candidates. I feel a better bound can be selecting everyone who solved 4 problems or top 600/1000 people.

If they are only selecting top 50 participants for finals. selecting very few(~100) people would definitely make many good people who can come in top 50 in regionals not even participate in regionals, but getting more people participate in regionals (eg. 500 non cheating participants) would make sure most deserving capable ones for top 50 are participating in regionals.
