Rating temporarily rolled back. Why does this happen, and how?

Sometimes we see this, but I don't understand why it happens

The plagiarism checker removes cheaters in the few days after a contest, and the rollbacks update the rating changes without the cheaters.

    Yeah I'm glad the cheaters are removed.I temporarily returned purple but I'll soon get to orange after the rollback

        I've never had anything like that before. If I remember my rating before the rollback correctly I got +22 and changed color as well. Normally it was somewhere around +2 for a couple of contests.

        Well...I was also orange before the rollback.So the increasing score is less than 50
