What music do you listen to while coding ???
Name |
---|
Darude — Sandstorm
Name of the song?
I wonder, does a human is multi tasking? Actually before I tried to "think the logic" while listening to music. But I could not concentrate well.
When I really want to code something, I remove the headset, even if it's Mozart playing.
Why are you talking about multitasking here? It does not always work this way. For me listening music is simply a way to make programming more comfortable.
Here is an awkward analogy — can't you work on some problem while eating (even if it is not the best idea to write code at this time)? You are eating, because being hungry makes you uncomfortable and distracts you from solving a problem; while preparing breakfast may distract you from thinking about a solution, because you need to be focused on cooking, eating this breakfast does not sounds like a hard task :)
Some people prefer perfect silence, some other just feel uncomfortable without music.
I eat because I'm addicted to it
Daft punk
Fairytale of Yesterday (Darius and Finlay Club Mix)
It's not good at first but become good at minute 2:00
Katy Perry — Firework (Have you seen The Interview?)
Firework is pretty good ,under the condition that I already know what to code. Otherwise I prefer silence before firework burst :D
Nanahira! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToqeQuZHa3s
Radiohead at the background makes perfect. I can listen to the cycled Reckoner song for hours while training. However, I prefer competing in silence.
Best song ever created.
I listen to marasy8. The fast piano melody makes me type faster.
Wow. It's music like these that makes me feel, I should have learned the "xyz" instrument. Particularly piano and violin. :'( I am just not talented/dedicated/hard-working enough to take them on.
I really liked his music!
Awesome, thanks!
Dubstep
Naseer Shamma makes it perfect with the lute.
Once I tried listening to hos.lyric's playlist (which I saw in his GCJ screencast) while coding. It worked better than expected.
Why not try his album? http://phrezy.jp/accepted/
I had no idea about this! Thanks :D
btw can you give me the link to that screencast? I want to try that playlist. :P
Sure, it's here: link. But you must find the playlist by yourself, because I'm currently at school :D
Experience — Ludovico Einaudi
Opeth
The best
Anything with lyrics that i can ignore. So pure instrumental (Jelonek or Lindsey Stirling are really nice) or something like Infected Mushroom with repetitive and distorted lyrics is fine for me. Silence is fine too, ofc.
Yay for Infected Mushroom!
Classical, epic, Daft Punk and Salam.
I listen to the music of my keyboard
Heavy-metal and hard-rock musics almost.
Russian emo-post-rock group "Рука Нергала"
My favourite channel while working & relaxing: youtube link.
Hey — https://www.scenemusic.net/demovibes/
Actually, I've never coded while listening to music, but I think it's something worth trying out.
Anyway, when I do it, as much as I'd like hearing some anime songs or Castlevania music, it will surely be something more quiet and instrumental, like Secret Garden, some movies OST's or classical music.
Yanka Dyagileva (link1, link2). As you can see, I'm not very at good contests.
my own trance mix
I don't always listen to music while coding, but sometimes I feel like listening to something soothing. In times like that I simply go to youtube and type "epic xyz", where xyz is an instrument name.
Most of the time I listen to "epic piano" or "epic violin". I tend to simply start a mix video of length 2 hours or more. So that I don't have to continuously shuffle the music myself.
Here is an example:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hJZ2xEixrg
I listen to this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HbMzu1aQW8
I love Mozart Symphony #40 :).
In Motion — Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (The Social Network)
If I'll listen to it, I'll become blue?
No, but maybe if you participate in a contest

my playlist
Men, seriously, isn't music distracting you? I listen to music pretty often, but it definitely has negative influence on my concentration when doing contests. Paying attention to smallest details is very important in CP and when listening music part of concentration goes to humming melody in your head/lipsyncing lyrics :P.
CP v LS
Paying attention to smallest details is very important in... in what?
competitive programming?
I hope so
Yes, I meant competitive programming :P.
As long as you didn't mean cheese pizza...
Aren't other people going/talking around or noise from the street distract you? For me music usually creates background and I don't pay attention to specific words at all so it doesn't distract me.
Hm, I usually take part in contests in my room, so there are no other people and the noise from the street is rather rare and not that loud. Though those are two kinds of distractions. Other noises are of kinds which make me nervous, so I'm distracted and music is something I unconsciousnessly concentrate on, instead of devoting 100% of my brain to solving tasks, 50% of it is occupied with listening to music :P.
I guess you'll have a hard time in case you advance to TCO Finals :) I've never been there (neither as participant nor as spectator), but everybody says that it is very loud there during contest :)
Yeah, looking at some videos here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqS78gzu3s5bvXRUrSrjtE-gH7FzAWRiy TCO definitely looks like a noisy place :).
But you can bring earplugs, can't you?
Organizers even give them to all competitors, but it doesn't help much...
When I don't listen to music, 50% of my brain is focused on "WHY IS IT SO SILENT? Has the world ended?", then looking around nervously looking for signs of life.
I usually listen to Radio on Google Music (before it was Rdio). It creates playlist based on my music preferences (previously listened songs that I've chosen) and I'm pretty happy with it. My playlist usually consists of alternative rock/metalcore bands like Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, Bullet for My Valentine, Three Days Grace, 3 Doors Down, Papa Roach, Lostprophets, Fall Out Boy, Staind, Rise Against, Shinedown and similar.
hmmmmmmm..
If I would say that I use Google as a search engine, you will still suspect me in advertising?
i suggest spotify
It is a pity that the service is not available in all countries.
"clubbed to death" from the Matrix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFS4zYWxzNA
Any kind of music as long as it is at zero volume.
MAROON 5
Something relaxing, like Deuter or Liquid Mind
"The best of Mozart" from youtube
WHAT DOES THE FOX SAYS?!
Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!
Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!
Perfect silence is the best. But when I can't get it, I listen to one of these in a loop:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T9Yygju9IY&hd=1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5isVFmdz3YA&hd=1
Mac lethal — Pale kid raps fast.
It makes me wanna type fast :))
Sexy and I know it — LMFAO
Russian folklore
Hm, when I was on one contest in Romania (Romanian Master in Mathematics) my teammates used that word and our guides said that they actually know what that means, so I guess it's kind of an 'international word' :P.
Nice one.
Silence
Rmadan Al-Prince "Egyption Singer" :'D
Fullmetal Alchemist Opening Again
Pink Floyd
The End.
I really love progressive house. Avicii, David Guetta, Hardwell, Martin Garrix, Dmitry Vegas, Like Mike, etc. What do you think about them?
Death metal Black metal thrash metal and more metal. During an actual competition I take off the music so I can focus more; but beforehand I always blast a good track to get hyped.
Back in Black — AC DC
It's time to add new recommendations here..
Here are mine
Idfc — Blackbear
The Skylab Plan — Daniel Pemberton (highly motivational if you know the story behind it from the movie.)
Boulevard of Broken Dreams — Green Day
Roots — Imagine Dragons
Bonus: Make U Mine — Kidswaste X Lolaby
I love Boulevard of Broken Dreams, too =)) But have you listened other version of this song? youtube.com/watch?v=dXTkBCRkySA
I didn't like Roots that much. If you're into Imagine Dragons, I recommend Radioactive, Warriors and Dream. Let me know what you think about them!
Yea, they are really nice. Check out the broiler remix of Shots if you want to, I found that nice.
Btw, you an Adele fan too? 14485822 xD
Of course. She's awesome!
Right before contest I like to listen to Oreja de van Gogh — something like this.
and Linkin Park, like this.
But not during contest. During contest I prefer drilling sounds.
Hey I know that there a lot of cool songs out there like Darude-Sandstorm and Firework but honestly , I love coding listening to the Pokemon theme song (no kidding) . The lyrics are great . "I wanna be the very best ... that no one ever was ...."
Heart is still a kid imo :)
Maroon 5 ! Metallica! Adele!
Alex7
I really, really like music...
But I must admit that when I listened to the music, it caught my attention a lot, hence I was less focus at coding and prefer not to listen anything then, :(
Anyway, OST Theme of One Punch Man "Seigi Shikkou" is a best confidence-boosting song for me and I really recommend it to be listened while coding :)
Anyone who likes rap?
Me. But I have no suggestions cause I listen to usual raps. (for ex. eminem). Could u suggest me yours'?
Well, most of the time I listen to Bulgarian rap, I think we have some very strong MCs (Secta is one of them btw :D) but unfortunately you won't understand what they say. Speaking about English rap, I think Redman, KRS, Wu-Tang Clan are good choices (besides the obvious ones like 2Pac, Biggie and so). Also, I love rap battles and emcees who can spit good freestyles and because of that, I can't miss MC Jin — see this compilation — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP0I-3yRTts and this battle — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-vi-0HJrNY (he is the Chinese guy).
Arctic Monkeys(all songs)
Good choice!)
Old psychedelic & jazz. It helps to distract, if solution of the problem has reached a deadlock
Everything is Awesome
Especially for me, I like listening to Queen or something similar.
Slim Shady.
Unless I'm participating in a contest.
Rednex, Amaranthe, Bon Jovi, Doro, Guano Apes, Scorpions, The Offspring, Ария, Пилот, Приключения электроников, Disturbed, Evanescence, Rammstein, Godsmack, Korpiklaani, Metallica, Quake 2 soundtrack, Within Temptation, and others.
A list for Progressive/Alternative Rock fans : (There are a couple of cool Heavy Metal songs as well)
You rock :D
<3
Hayedeh
Some of these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7OCzDNeENg sounds inspiring for me. Besides coding time (chill out music) — Evergreen, Animal Glass.

Wait a minute, stefdasca is coming with his twice army.
You should try with МЫ, especially with this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k5ufJRcN-o
This one is good candidate to hear while coding.
