My advice : keep aims which don't make you depressed. Instead of being red in two months , try I'll solve Div 2 C and Div 2 D most of times in contest within 2 month
It seems you didn't achieve it……
but salute to upsolving I was continuously stalking him for a month and he solved a lot problems , atleast he tried some people don't even try, and setting targets will always make u better
16 Aug will come next year too..If not this year maybe next. But he really deserve respect...atleast he set his bar high
While setting targets, you should also be aware of things like this.
I tried, but couldn't :(
The difficulties I faced: Whenever I tried to solve hard problems(solved by 200-400 people) I faced difficulty in understanding the math behind them. Even editorials and comments couldn't make much sense to me. I got frustrated and even felt pathetic about myself. I really felt the need of friend who also have the same interest, but unfortunately have none around me.
In the end I just ended up solving lots of problems which are already in my comfort zone.(time wasted)
Its still not the end, I will still try. Thanks.
I think never challenge yourself for rating . Rather Challenge learning new things as quickly as possible , try to solve hard problems . Participate contest , solve problems , enjoy yourself ! One day , you surely reach you target ! Best of luck !
If not done already, a course on discrete maths might help you to brush up your mathematical skills. It teaches you many proof strategies, induction, basic number theory etc. which are common concepts that appear in problems and this should help you to understand editorials. If you are doing an undergraduate course in computer science, this will most probably be taught to you.
All the best! :)
You shouldn't set such high goals because they're practically impossible and will only lower your self esteem. We all wish it would take a few months to get red or to beat tourist, but things like the latter will just never happen, so if you want to have some goals, make them very small and lots of them — small wins are easier and will still motivate you.
About the maths — I find that odd. There are some problems with maths but most (especially A-D in Div2) don't require any advanced math. Perhaps as mentioned above you are referring to some proof techniques or ways of thinking which you find difficult, in which case you can either sit for long hours and try understand them (which is very good thing to do actually) or you can also ask someone. Just because you don't have close friends that program doesn't mean you can't get any help.
Don't leave problems unsolved. You can't solve/understand something? — Ask people, here in Codeforces for example. Yea sure you would get some downvotes here and there, but they are meaningless and you'll surely still be a much better member of the community than people like Fear_Is_An_Illusion. Getting to red takes quite a bit of time and effort (as my rating graph indicates) but it surely is achievable if you are motivated enough :)
P.S.
This comment is actually also very helpful as it links to a phenomenon that I've personally experienced countless times. So be careful of who you share your goals with!
I personally get flattered when Reds manage their time to write such useful suggestions. Thanks
Finally senpai notices me :)
I think that there's not enough number of contests during 2 months which will allow someone blue becoming red even assuming that he wins all of them :P.
win 1 div 2 round, become CM .. win 2 div1 rounds, become GM.. I think there must be 2 div1 rounds in 2 months :P
