Gym locked during CF round?

Why is the gym currently blocked by administrator? My team has started a virtual contest about 2 hours ago and suddenly the gym is not working and we can't send our solutions.

Unfortunately gym is blocked during contests (currently Div2 contest is held). In fact I am a big opposer of that idea, especially for Div2-only contests. There are probably many teams which would like to train on virtual contests in gym, especially during that hot period of regionals and they are not given that opportunity when contest for Div2 is held. And blocking gym for 2 hours effectively blocks interval of starting a contest in gym of length 7 hours.

I understand that blocking gym reduces potential traffic on site, makes submissions queues shorter, but I believe that teams participating in gym cause negligible traffic, so they will not affect contestants in a noticeable way, but it can be a big obstacle (and moreover — very surprising one as can be seen by that entry) for other people. Can someone from staff comment on this?

Can admin please comment on this topic? I think many people who are training for ACM ICPC would love Gym not being blocked during div2 only.

And now we also have Educational Round. Was gym blocked too, during 2 hours of coding phase of Educational Round?

    I had a virtual participation at the gym during the educational round, and it was not blocked.

    Recently we were solving NEERC in gym during Div1+Div2 and it was not blocked, not sure if that is a pattern or just Mike forgot to block it.
