Hello CF,

I've heard rumors that there might be super regional in NA region this year? Can any coach or participants went to WF this year confirm?

Whom should I contact to get more information about it?

How exactly do super regionals in other continents work? Is it like, you have your sub regional and then you qualify for the super regional, and then at the super regional you qualify for WF? Or do they get rid of subregionals altogether?

I think all the sub regionals get same problems and the results are added together, like Latin America. But I'm not sure, if anyone could confirm

This is what I was informed so far:

(I'm a contestant in a NA Regional, but I'm not a World Finalist).

  • There will be two phases: Regional and Super-Regional.

  • The winner of each Regional will qualify for the World Finals.

  • Other top teams will compete in the Super-Regional (in Georgia Tech (?)) for the remaining North American slots in the World Finals.

Oh! That sounds really cool, and it sounds like a really good idea (looking at you, SER). Did you hear this from a coach or an official ICPC organizer?

Now is the pretty official information from my co-coach who attended the World Finals:

      • There will be two phases: Regional and North American Championship.

      • The Regionals will serve as the qualification for the World Finals and for the North American Championship

(UPD: There is some misunderstanding between me and my co-coach. The North American Championship might be open to all teams.)

      • There will probably be a Training Camp for North American teams. The time and place this camp is held will be determined later.

      • The North American Championship might or might not serve as a qualification for the World Finals. This will be determined later.

I thought that North Central Regional is the combination of North Central North America and another "North Central" Regional. It turns out that nothing changes.

If the North American Championship doesn't serve as a qualification for the World Finals, what would be the point of the North American Championship? Just an orthogonal competition to the ICPC WF?

So what happened to this? Did there just end up being no super regional?

Is it just me or does it seem like the whole structure of ICPC is a big complicated mess?

This is not the first blog like this where someone's confused about what the hell is going on. Also, every (super/sub)region does things a little (sometimes completely) differently; every now and then there's drama about how this or that thing was screwed up by this region (e.g. posts by Ashishgup or that one really bad CERC). Why does it have to be like this?

No One will ever know how ICPC really works, because even the people running it don't know.

I've heard this exact rumor for the past 2 years. But it never happened. I think because of lack of funding.

A few days ago the website updated and it said:

      1. First place team in each region qualifies for WF.

      2. Other top teams from each region compete in the NAC for the 5 remaining spots.

Now they updated the website again, so there is no info there regarding this, and it says location is TBD.
