Significance of "Berland"

I have been an active participant at codeforces since the last month. I noticed that many problems related to Graphs and Trees have reference to the fictional country of Berland. Just out of curiosity I want to ask:- Does anyone knows what is the significance or story behind using "Berland" in so many problems and not any other fictional name.

Berland is second name of Atlantis.
