Well, he is a boy, but his name Lijie（立杰)，has the same sound with Lijie(丽洁), which is a name for girls.

Also, jie(杰) shares a similar sound with jie(姐), which means elder sister.

In Chinese OI groups, many people call him HER, as a special tradition. I think it doesn't matter that you call Lijie HE or HER.
