can anybody explain why we are doing (a + 1) * (b + 1) — 2 after spliting it to 'a' and 'b' ? in problem C

I am new to CP and this was my 3rd contest , i was not aware of these things i have used ideone.com in public mode by mistake , I will make sure from future contest to do in private mode i am requesting to give me rating back , i apologised for my mistake
