Unordinary post-ICPC careers Most of ICPC veterans I know joined companies like Google, Facebook, Yandex or some younger tech startups ([1](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Looksery), [2](http://www.aimtech.com/), [3](https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fabby-photo-video-editor/id1147967413?mt=8)) or stayed at university, getting their scientific degrees and training some high school / university students in the process. That's all quite boring. I recently found out about some unusual careers of former olympians. We broke Topcoder ratings It's long been known that certain rating systems, namely Glicko-2 and Topcoder, are not monotonic. In other words, there are cases where losing can eventually result in a higher rating. We wanted to know just how severe the issue can be. In [joint work](https://github.com/EbTech/Elo-MMR) with [user:inutard,2021-02-15] at WWW 2021, we computed how [user:tourist,2021-02-15]'s rating would evolve according to both Topcoder and our custom rating system. The dataset consists of Codeforces rounds up to Looksery Cup 2015, accessed via the Codeforces API. Here, we see that [user:tourist,2021-02-15]'s Topcoder rating is 3284, but could have been as high as 3807 if he were willing to lose on purpose!  More details on the adversarial strategy: for his first 45 rounds, we simulate [user:tourist,2021-02-15] playing normally, following historical data. In the next 45 rounds, he purposely becomes last place whenever his Topcoder rating is above 297...

Overview of the Moscow International Workshop @MIPT Recently I returned from the Workshop and wanna share my impressions. Hi everybody I find something weird in last contest. go to [user:0e352a,2015-06-07] user a watch his profile by the chart he got 1483 place in the looksery cup (last contest) and he got +16 rating. but when you click on the [link](http://mirror.codeforces.com/contest/549/standings/participant/4852431#p4852431) to see his place on standing you will find him on 61 place with 5853 point!!
