Octoplex's blog

Ever since I was a child, I have loved various puzzles and tasks that challenge you. In solving them I got a creative impulse, for me creating a unique, beautiful, unordinary, but at the same time logical solution was what made me feel alive. I have always been very interested in the world around me and its mysteries, especially the stars, they have always beckoned me with their secrets, and delighted me with their greatness, how I wanted to get closer to them....

But unfortunately my health did not allow me to become an astronaut, and in general to become someone. At school I had time to participate in a large number of Olympiads, to appreciate the beauty of mathematics and how much I like to do it. Most of all I liked discrete mathematics, computational mathematics, optimization methods, and when I discovered competitive programming, the happiness of my inner researcher was unbounded. I wanted to spend all day solving interesting problems, inventing new optimization methods, algorithms, but life decided otherwise. My health condition, which was hitting my nervous system and mental state hard, not only made the work I loved unbearable, but also significantly reduced its productivity. Severe hits to all cognitive abilities, attention, memory, and thinking put me in a debuff that turned on ultra-hard-mode at any contest. But even with such limitations I was able to achieve some successes: I got diplomas of the List Olympiads in math and computer science, and also, surprisingly, I became a holder of a prize-winner diploma of the All-Russian Olympiad in computer science. But with each year, with each month, with each day my life was fading away, becoming more and more hopeless. As a result, I had to suspend my studies at a top university and actively pursue the study of biology in order to have hope to continue creating.

It's been a few years, I'm incredibly close to full rehabilitation, and I want to devote myself fully to competitive programming for a while. I've always been fascinated by the codeforces community and want to be a part of it that benefits people. Let's see how far I can go, what ranking peaks I can reach. Who knows, maybe I'll make it to the ICPC finals and become a legendary Grandmaster, maybe not, I'm curious to see how this story unfolds.

I've recently had a good teaching experience and realized that I enjoy creating not only solutions to problems, but also creating problems and creating educational materials, so I hope I can help a lot in improving and expanding the Codeforces community course, make a lot of useful and interesting, educational/research posts and contribute to the development of such a great trend as competitive programming.

I really like to look at problems from different angles, it was teaching that opened for me this method of studying algorithms and data structures, sometimes students ask such questions and suggest such ideas that you could not even think of. So I think you will see a lot more posts from me with requests to share my vision of solving both simple and complex problems. I hope for the community's help in my difficult journey, and I also hope that I can be of use to this great community as well. At the moment I am doing math and English so that I can communicate and learn materials from competitive programmers from all corners of the world without any problems, and also to please you with content in English. With competitive math, I want to refresh my ideation and some thinking patterns as well as interesting properties and theorems. After I reach the necessary level in English and math, which will take a few weeks or months, I will start diving into competitive programming and you may see a lot of posts from me. I wonder how my story will unfold this time around, but I always want to believe in good things. And remember, no matter how bad things are in your life, your life is in your hands, with all kinds of efforts a person can roll mountains, I hope each of you can achieve your dreams, as I was able to defeat my disease.

“Since childhood we are taught to believe in miracles..... Parents tell us good fairy tales, we read books and watch movies with a good ending, and having grown up — we continue to believe that in a difficult moment, a miracle is bound to happen to us. But you can't order a miracle. Sometimes, it happens unexpectedly. And sometimes, the miracle comes when it seems that your fairy tale has already come to an end... It's important to realize that if the miracle didn't happen, maybe you didn't really want it and didn't do anything for it, in which case you should start writing the fairy tale yourself!”
