Hello Codeforces ☀️☀️☀️.

It has been one year now since I joined Codeforces 15th February 2023 . Today is 16th February 2024 ✨.

Some great memories of contests:

  • Educational Codeforces Round 143 (Rated for Div. 2) This was my first contest where i solved 1 problem at 01:57 (3 min before the end of the contest)

  • Codeforces Round 871 (Div. 4) On this contest, I reached Pupil rating for the first time after almost three months since I started solving 6 problems.

  • Codeforces Round 899 (Div. 2) On this contest, I reached the Specialist rating for the first time after seven months since I started. Note that initially after that contest, my rating was 1399,i even posted a blog about that. And it was days after with rollback that I got an extra +2, bringing me to 1401.

  • Educational Codeforces Round 158 (Rated for Div. 2) And as you know, everything that goes up needs to come down :). A few contests later, I was back to Newbie on this contest , and my rating was 1181.

  • Codeforces Round 914 (Div. 2) Some days after that fall, I had one of my best performances ever, if it is not the best ever, on this contest when I solved 5 problems in that Div2 and getting a +140.

Short story about that contest:

Spoiler

I still don't know if i'm truly Specialist but we will know that in upcoming weeks.

Feel free to ask your questions in the comment !!

When do you think I will get to expert?

  • April

  • June

  • After

Update : 22 March 2024

I'm now Expert 🔥 💥 🎁 🎯 💯 🌈 ⭐ 🎈 🤩 🤧 😴 😳 😭 😈

How does it feel to be an Expert ? 😈

Oooh I love it and I hate it at the same time ...... Yeah, this makes me happy and also indifferent at the same time. In fact when you finally achieve something you were willing for so long you suddenly ask yourself so that's how it feel ?

You all were wrong 5 weeks ago when I asked about the time I will reach Expert

It took me 1 year and 1 month to achieve that 🎯. I can still remember when I started I didn't know what was dfs and how to code it. In today Div2C I was able to do it quicky bringing me to that which seems like impossible 6 months ago !!

I didn't participate in that contest, and when I virtually participated I didn't know rmq, segtree etc so I couldn't, But after changing my rmq method 10 times it ACd a few days ago

like bro I built it using simple arrays, WA 1(probably lazy sleepy implementation) used structs WA 1, (probably miss took some variables and lazy to fix) used vectors WA 2, (vectors are shit so expected) used a class with arrays WA 2, (forgot to reset arrays) used a class with vectors AC

      like wtf?

Do you understand why your rating graph sometimes goes down several contests in a row?

I guess I need to maintain 3 problems solved in Div2. Every time I miss C automatically rating is lost. The question why is it in a row: I don't know. Do you have any idea?

Thanks!! I don't think it is mandatory, sometimes it happens. You reach a new level and just after you fall back but it is different for everyone, some manage to keep it going. Hint solve Div2 ABC quickly or outperform in Div3. You wanna do what suit you but if you want to keep expert title you should definitively go for the first one. Currently, I haven't been able to maintain my expert title so I can't tell you more !!

What is your approach to training? Do you study specific topics or solve perhaps 50 problems at rate x, then another 50 at rate x+100, and so on and if you need a topic while solving a problem, do you pause to study it before continuing with the remaining 50 or what?

Until like weeks ago i have never been practicing a specific topic. And I use none of the pre-cited ways of training. I just do virtual contests because it seems much closer to reality for me.

First of all, congratulations!

I can understand your current mood (from the emoji in your post), just like I did a month ago. I've used the whole year from E to CM, and during this year I've experienced many academic failures. This excitement is truly indescribable.

Don't stop, and you will do better.

Thanks !! For sure the range of Expert to candidate master is one of those that takes much time. Even some graphs that inspire me like FBI or cleanser (because we share some similarities in progression) had a hard time with that and the latter haven't done it yet. I will keep practicing and see what will come out. First, trying to maintain my expert title. Also for academic fields we need to be careful too otherwise, it can be hard to manage both.

Hi, I got the notification that I got tagged in your comment. I think that becoming cm after expert requires not only practicing. Specifically, I think that this is the time that you stop questioning some ideas that might pop up in your head, when you are solving lower-rated problems. Nevertheless, you have to learn some tricks and tipical tasks in order to progress. I may be wrong, but that was the way for me)

I used to compare our graph every time ): I guess I'm a little bit behind in term of progression (you made expert after 1 year and 1 month) but it is still close to yours. Hope I will get candidate master as you did. For sure being able to solve consistently Div2 D is not such easy in the first touch since it involves being versatile. During your expert time do you much practice with virtual or problem set?

Actually, the first time that I reached CM was when I dacided not to practice every day,but to get enough sleep and free time. Before that I could spend weeks practicing with my friends, we often competed on some problems that they found interesting. I am not sure how it is shown in your timezone, but my streak was once 447 days, but I had to stop because I noticed that my friend fucked up his streak at 447, and because I really appreciated his effort, I decided that our competition has to end in a draw)

Practice is not always about problemsolving, sometimes it is about getting enough rest and getting used to the pressure. For example, consistent solving of D2D's is not an easy task not only because it could be hard, but because you are under a lot of pressure "if I can't solve it, I am not going to become a CM", you have to overcome this type of thoughts. For me it is still hard to believe in myself sometimes, but it is necessary, if you want to become a Candidate Master\Master.

That is the foundation behind elo rating system =)
Your rating is determined by performance of other people.
If people who participate in your competitions get more skilled on average then your rating will go down even if your skill level is the same as before ☺︎
