I am kinda new to this platform but I have a question. I only have participated in a total of 5 rated contest with my rankings ranging from 5000 to 10000, but on my 2nd contest I got +500 with a ranking of 10.000 and by that I am now a Specialist with a max contest ranking 5000.
What is your question though?
My rating is too high when compared with my coding skills, you can see that I have only done 5 contest and all my rankings in this 5 contest are pretty low, so I think that there is an error in the algo for counting rankings
codeforces gives a boost for those, who are doing their first 5 contests, so it's easier to estimate new users' performance in cp
Yes, there is some bug in the algorithm. I hope this issue gets addressed soon. I have gained 81 points after rating changes which can't just be explained by cheaters getting caught. I want my rating to go up by actually performing well in contests not because of some flaw in the algorithm.
It's not a bug, the site has done a plagiarism check on some of the contests and removed cheaters, so if most of the cheaters beat you before the check and they are removed, your ranking becomes higher and this gives you higher elo. SecondThread has explained it in more detail here
Thanks for the explanation, but gaining 250 ratings by removing several cheaters is way too much
i kept getting high ranks (3000s)and you have more rating than me. seems like codeforces support new ids more.
I guess so, my rankings will definitely get balanced to 1200 after few more contest.
It's not an error. The rating system has changed many times, i guess. A couple years ago, when participating in your first contest, the default rating was 1600, but now it starts at 0. It seems that in the first few contests, the delta rating changed a lot, but after that it decreased.
