Red0's blog

By Red0, history, 2 weeks ago, In English

I'm not a native Chinese speaker(anymore), and my strong suit isn't in reading+understanding Chinese. Anybody who has used Google translate knows that it's kinda.... for translating problems(you get my point). Anyways, to those who are fluent in both Chinese and English + are skilled, please help me by providing Google Translate+ solutions to these questions. Thanks!

It's not free as I'm currently based in mainland China, and as a citizen it is illegal for me to "jump the wall" + vpns cost money :)

I thought using codeforces means that you have already jumped over the wall. You don't need a VPN to visit codeforces in China?

Most of the time, people in China can visit Codeforces without a VPN.

As mentioned in another comment ChatGPT 3.5 is usually good enough to just translate both statements and editorials (source: I'm someone who uses it regularly to translate non-english stuff to english)

You probably know this but 查看题解 means editorial. luogu usually have a ton of user written editorials so if you don't understand one you can always try another.

true true, yet most of them don't provide very clear explanations imo(probably cause i don't understand sufficient chinese)

Luogu editorials tend to have varying quality, I don't think it is just an issue of insufficient Chinese understanding. Very often I find myself looking at the Chinese and I understand every word of it but I don't understand the idea. Similarly after I translate with ChatGPT I still don't get it. Sometimes it's just they leave out certain important details that are "obvious" to them.

One thing I learnt is that not every editorial is written in a way that is spoonfed to you, and I say this in general not just about luogu editorials. Most of them write some outline and expect you to fill in the details (sometimes to a fault). If you don't get the editorial of a problem, maybe it's just a sign that the problem is too difficult and you should move on. Alternatively, maybe try reading their code — it's more painful but the missing details are often in the code.

Thank you! I try not to look at code, but I will in the future if necessary.

I know it sucks to be not abled to understand the problem because of the language barrier. I am not a native English speaker and I often get stuck with the problem description given. Yes google translator helps but it is not enough to get the full meaning of the problem. Hope I might get good at English and you find your solution.

Do you mean you need only the editorials or both the statements and the editorials? I can provide you what is wanted.
