why is lambda function so slow in this case?

for CSES Grid Path why does this get TLE but this get AC while the only difference between them is that in the first one a lambda function is used but in the second one a normal function instead? Or is there other differences that I`m missing?

You're copying S and dir by value on the lambda example.
