2024.11.24, I finished participating in ICPC shenyang onsite, which is my last ICPC contest, getting bronze medal.
I've been in codeforces for 17 months. In the beginning, I can hardly solve Div2 B, and now I've been a Candidate Master.
I've dreamed of being a Master, but maybe I will never have a chance.
There are some many things to do: preparing for internship or being a postgraduate, and of course, my college lesson.
I love this contest. I love codeforces, too.
I didn't get a silver or gold medal in my CP career. In china you can hardly do this if there isn't a Master in your team.
Whatever, I learn many things from CP and codeforces. I just …… don't have enough time to continue to compete.
However, I don't know what to do in the future. Try to be a postgraduate or find a good job? Or do other things? Actually I just don't know it. What a joke.
Hell. Whatever. Goodbye my love. Wish that I will have a good life.
Good luck bro, with everything that happens next
thx bro
Good luck ! Mind sharing any specific thing that help you reach there
just keep training. Try to solve harder problems. Ever tried. Ever failed. Ever better.
How much hard ? I mean with related to current rating
If you solve 600 problems in one year you can also be a Candidate Master. There is nothing difficult.
What about learning new topics required to solve a problem. I mean if I don't know how to solve a problem, how can I solve it
just solve it
I solved 460
$$$\text{Quality } < < < \text{Quantity}$$$
I solved 278 problems till now. I am still a newbie
Out of which 160 are of 800 rating ! you forgot to mention this.
lie, i solved more problrm on *1700<= combined than you and still suck at cyan.
you just had competitive brain and your affiliation clealy show that you are
Yes, that's true
I have solved over 700 problems on Codeforces, and I have also worked on many problems on other online judges, such as Luogu, AtCoder, and many more. In total, I have tackled around 1300+ problems and dedicate more than 8 hours a day to practice. However, I still have a Specialist rating. How can I achieve CM as you?
Do *2000
Its sounds nice.
Good luck for a good life ahead.
Good luck!
Godspeed ,Soldier......
reality is really harsh
someone felt wall at orange
and some felt wall at red
and some felt wall at blue
and there is 14 old and many Chinese LGM who never went college
at this point i believe this game is all about talent
nothing can save you but talent
They start too early, that's it
actually, that is false
you can not run fast as Usain Bolt just for start too early.
or even break wall of running 100m in 10 seconds.
i hope you understand what i mean
I guess their minds were trained from childhood ina manner that it could process cp kind of activities faster when they grew up, keeping aside some of them who are truly genius
blue on codeforces != running as fast as Usain Bolt, lol
tourist = Usain Bolt,
Red = being able to run 100m in 10sec (obviously not an option for everyone, even if you start at 7)
practice, you can still improve in CP = you can run 100m from 15sec to 13sec if you practice hard
this is my analogy
Ok, I agree with you on this.
What did you mean by this tho?
If you don't mind, can I ask how you went from CM/M to almost LGM in your $$$20$$$'s? It is actually very weird since improvement like that usually only comes in earlier years.
Your analogy doesn't make sense, considering CP requires brains, not brawn. If you want to compare CP to another sport, chess would make a much better counterpart, since it also belongs to the category of intellectual games.
Speaking of chess, there's a well-documented case: the Polgár sisters. Basically, their father (László Polgár) theorized that prodigies can be made through specialized education, so he offered chess training to the Polgár sisters at the age of 4. The result speaks for itself: both went on to become excellent chess players, with Judit Polgár being the first female player to cross 2700 (Super GM status).
Yeah, that's what early training does for athletes at the elite level
Chess is a very bad example because it is not really $$$IQ$$$ish. Like chess correlation to IQ is like $$$r = .2$$$ or something. Competitive programming imo is more like $$$r = .4-.5$$$ or so. Imo, this is how it goes:
$$$r = $$$
$$$.2$$$ = chess
$$$.4-.5$$$ = competitive programming
$$$.5-.6$$$ = math competition
$$$.7-.8$$$ = subpar IQ test
$$$.9-.95$$$ = good IQ test
$$$1$$$ = covid vaccine
I have a different take on this. I feel if anyone, no matter how dumb, commits to get better and practices consistently, he/she will surely get better and reach higher ratings.
I believe consistency and well-focused hardwork can beat any talented person. I have been commited to this since 2 weeks, let see what happens <3
Yes, but what is higher ratings?
For some people, it is $$$2400$$$. For others, it is $$$2000$$$, $$$1600$$$, or $$$1200$$$.
I believe there's no such thing as a true plateau in skill. There's always some reason causing lack of progress, such as lack of motivation, lack of free time, poor training strategy, or any other number of reasons. Of course rate of progress is going to vary somewhat based on the person. But anyone can improve.
But doesn't skill get harder and harder to gain? Kind of like a $$$y = log(x)$$$ sort of thing. At some point, I think that you still $$$can$$$ improve, but very tinily. So I am just curious, were you just not trying so much in the beginning?
Bro, That really hits hard
Wish to see you back some day when the schedule is not so tight.
It's wired to see this type of post, "I love cp but i have to say goodbye". Sounds like some bullshit broken up excuse.
Wish you all the best in the future !
That sounds lovely.
Wishing you all the best for a wonderful life ahead!
Good Bye sir. U are leaving Cp not Codeforces ...XD
Good Luck for your future endeavours
I am about to cry.I don't know what will i do if i have to stop participating in Codeforces. Really sad story. Good luck!
