JT_007's blog

The purpose of this blog is to plan and work towards achieving the goal of reaching 1625/Expert (currently at 1125, a gap of exactly 500 points) by the end of March. While there's no compulsion or ultimatum to quit CP if the goal isn't met, I aim to approach it as a challenge to solve.

So, plan is to approach the problem using agile methodology, as it will provide framework to guide my progress. The key points, according to my understanding of the Agile mindset: 1. Sprint Planning: For me, this will involve planning tasks or problems to solve every two weeks. 2. Regular Standups: Since daily standups won't be much useful, I will reflect on progress weekly and share updates in this blog.

Questions to answer each week: - What accomplished? (in terms of rating points and the range of problems solved) - What will I work on next week? - Any blockers or challenges? (I’ll reflect on it)

Quick calculation:
Need to gain 500 rating points in 3 months, an average of ~167 points per month or around 33 points per contest. Planning to attend 5 rated contests on CF per month, so I can consistently track the progress and adjust strategies.

Plan for Sprint 1 (4th Jan — 17th Jan) - Need to brush-up my skills, so will focus on Blind-75 for covering basics and gain confidence - Attend contests and identify weak areas and focus on improving them - Further TBD

Wish you all the best!

I suggest that you focus more on difficulty of problems you solve as a measure of improvement, rather than specific rating changes, because the latter has much noise, depending on a particular contest. And having to "get 49 more rating this week" doesn't seem like the best way.

To get to 1600 level, for simplicity, you can suppose that you need to be able to solve 1600 diff problems in a reasonable time. ThemeCP also has a sheet with levels, you would need level 21.

While it's not a simple task in any way, you can try to follow checkpoints along these lines:

End of January — solving 1200 in reasonable time (~30 min)

End of February — solving 1400 in reasonable time (~40 min)

End of March — solving 1600 in reasonable time (~50 min)

To achieve this, for example, spend the month practicing and reading editorials of problems of similar difficulty

I would suggest though to at least make deadline the end of May, then you would need 100 point rating jumps in a month, which is more feasible. But again, good luck to you, and most importantly you will definitely improve from practice!

thank you for sharing! will focus on difficulty of problems to measure improvement, the problem I thought in that was different topics may reflect varying skill levels but can focus on each topic until I can solve them within the time checkpoints you mentioned.

yeah, I'll extend the deadline till May if don't reach till March. It's just a fun challenge to see how far I can push myself
