Written on the first of April. This post is a parody: original. I do think that altitude sickness can be a real concern, but the numbers in that post are ridiculous.

Hello, CodeForces!

Today, I would like to discuss about an issue of IOI 2026 venue. The venue of IOI 2026 is still not officially announced, but judging by the image of Registan on the website, there is a good chance at least part IOI 2026 will be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

As you know, Samarkand is one of the hottest cities in the general Samarkand area. For example, the mean daily maximum temperature in August is 33.3 °C, and if you turn on the radiator, it can even get up to a whopping 40 °C. Therefore, heat exhaustion can be a big concern. I think that even the following things can happen:

  • 5% of the contestants will instantly die
  • 15% of the contestants collapsed at the airport, and they were even unable to reach hotels
  • 30% of the contestants collapsed during hotel stay, opening ceremony, practice sessions and excursions, and they were unable to participate in the contest
  • The remaining 50% were barely able to participate in the contest, but most of them performed very badly because of the extreme heat
  • Only 10% were able to perform at the level of their skill, and gold medalist were almost determined among them. Many LGMs, IGMs and GMs made blunders in the contest, and the biggest upset in IOI history occured

If I were an IOI 2026 participant, I have a strong confidence that I could not even get a honorable mention because I often suffer extreme discomfort at 25 °C (real).

In addition, as an alumni of Estonian Olympiad in Informatics (EIO), I am very worrying about the possibility that IOI 2026 Estonia team cannot participate in the contest or cannot perform well. I also think that many other countries have the same concern — because some of the countries are cold, like at most 15 or 20 °C in the late summer.

Are there any tips or any ways of practice to get used to high heat?

If you wanna enjoy a lower temperature, I suggest you to switch to Kelvin degrees. 50 degrees Kelvin is a perfect temperature for sleeping. ETERNAL SLEEPING!

Hi, I am from Uzbekistan. There is nothing to worry. You can use hazmat suit with an in-built AC system. Just get one of those and you will be fine.

This is how it looks:

At least there won't be a lot of cocky and rude participants with serious attitude issues

As an IOI 2024 participant:

I can confirm that in Egypt, stats were much worse. And I appreciate international committee's efforts in choosing places with better altitudes.

(BTW I'm Syrian)

Even the Codeforces servers won't stand that heat.
