So, guys i was going through the standings of Round 324 . Look at the profiles of harhil and blhoy . Both of them ranked 665 in round 324. Now , look at these data harshil's rating before contest = 1703 blhoy's rating before the contest = 1503 harshil's rating after contest = 1700 blhoy's rating after the contest = 1540 . As per this formula , blhoy will have to perform consistently for 6 or more rounds to reach a rating of 1700 ( which can only happen if he has a bit of luck apart from training hard), but on the other hand even if harshil keeps underperforming like this in all upcoming matches(which i wish not to happen) , then he will take about 50 or more matches to reach a rating of 1500 or near . I am not a mathematician , and i'm not aware of how the new formula is working , but it sounds completely unfair to me for someone who started with a bad round here . Can , you guys share your feelings about this and may be some other examples from the last few rounds .

Let's wait until we see the formula, I believe Mike is adjusting it, that's why he didn't publish it previously :)

You can assume there is something like "acceleration" behind the rating.

That's just wishful thinking. We don't nearly have enough information to assume that.

Fine, the first guy went 1703->1700. The second one 1503->1540. But I can't make any sense of your next passage:

As per this formula , blhoy will have to perform consistently for 6 or more rounds to reach a rating of 1700 ( which can only happen if he has a bit of luck apart from training hard), but on the other hand even if harshil keeps underperforming like this in all upcoming matches(which i wish not to happen) , then he will take about 50 or more matches to reach a rating of 1500 or near .

Why 6 or more matches to reach 1700 which he already has right now?

Why 50 or more matches to reach 1500 or near?

Please make yourself more clear. Perhaps some of the numbers are mistakes?..

Upd: fine, I get it now. You say the 1700 guy will go to 1500 and 1540 one to 1700. The answer is: no, if they perform exactly the same, they shall instead meet at some point like 1670 or so, and remain there.

There is a post about the current rating calculation mechanism already, but looks like it is only in Russian so far.

Well, i think that i need to clarify my point here . I think that according to the new rating formula it is equally difficult to increase as well as to decrease your rating . It seems like if you are rated around 1500 and you target to reach 1700, then you will have to perform better for the next 6-7 rounds . Similarly, if you are a 1700 , then you can reach a 1500 by poorly performing for 20-22 rounds (The numbers are just a random guess based on the rating decrement seen in above case) . I'm trying to say that if a 1500 guys performs equal to or better than a 1700 guy, then he should have more increment in his rating because his performance is above expectations . But, as per the new rating system it is very difficult to loose ratings even if you perform below your expected level, similarly even if you perform above your expected level you rating increment is not such that you can brag about it . So, someone with a high rating is about to remain there for a longer time and similar is the case for low rated guys too . BTW, i'm just asking for your views, why downvotes ?
