Challenge for Div2 Students

Hi all and happy New Year!

I am chessmaster, and ordinary student from Uzbekistan, who has been participating ACM ICPC semifinals of NEERC region. During the first attempt, my team managed to solve two problems and was a bit higher than bottom in the scoreboard. However, this year we couldn’t solve anything (let’s not talk about places). At that moment, I realized that NEERC is a hard nut to crack. Being blue (not to mention green and cyan), it is way too early to dream about first-degree certificates or proceeding to Finals. So I said to myself: “Either you raise your rating to 2000 or you skip ACM ICPC 2017. You won’t even register your team!”. Then I told my friends about this and four of them joined me. Now I want to offer this challenge to all div2 students, who want not only participate at ACM ICPC, but also succeed in it. If you think you can do this, then getting 2000 must be a piece of cake for you. Otherwise, everything is clear already.


Now, why exactly 2000?

Just because you can get 1900 accidentally and fall back to div2 in a couple of contest. On contrary, for getting 2000 you will have to stay in div1, which means good skills and a possibility to achieve at least something during the real competition (of course, role of the team in ICPC is also important).


Not to write too much, if you are confident and ready to take risk, join us!

Show everyone that you can go up to the skies (almost) in a year and show your determination. Comment if you are ready to skip ACM ICPC 2017 if you don’t get 2000 points of maximal rating.

Me too! I tried really hard, and I also learned how to code up Red Black Tree. But I did not find a single contest, where it was of use.

    Thank you. Also, as the rating difference of the participants aren't too high(or, are divided just in 3 category), maybe, we can create a study group, where we can track what the other members are learning, possibly learn from them or get suggestion if I am wasting the time in wrong way.

Although I'm not old enough to participate in ICPC 2017, I still want to see when I can achieve 2000!

My rating rises from 1291 to 1966 in 6 months (and 11 contests), so maybe it's possible for some of you too :D

It is nice that you are so determined :) I hope you reach 2000 soon. But my thinking will differ from yours on this topic. I think that you should participate in as many contests(ACM or any other competition) as you can (For me that is the way one can reach to 2000, rather than skipping contests). Moreover ACM is more about your team coordination and strategy. But if this can work out as a positive motivation for you then go for it :) I am writing this as a member of a team who made it to Acm Icpc India Finals having a pupil ,specialist and an expert at that time. We learned many new things that would have taken us a long time to know if we had not participated in the contest. Basically, I think that you should keep participating in these competitions as they provide you with a measure of your current level, and also tell you how much efforts you need to put to achieve your goal. But then again different people have different motivation sources :)

    May because you are from a college where solving 2 — 3 problems takes you to the acm regionals , see the situation @ IITs where you can't be sure even solving 5 problems .

    Yes it's me. And I participated this year in the Olympics, although I did not fulfill the condition. And for this I apologize to all who participated in this.
