I am 18 year old , i am coding in java since 12 , I never went in problem solving skill or competitions till this year, I heard about codeforces so I decide to give it a try and learnt C++ , STL.

I like it alot , enjoying while solving Problems , I solved around 50 problem past 12 days. I am going to go like this for rest of year.

Is it possible to be red by next year If i keep going like this?

Any tips / advice?

It is possible to become black-red for 10 days once every year. :)

Seems like a duplicate of Is it possible to be red in 1 Year

For someone just starting, 2400+ is near impossible in my opinion. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try. If you keep on solving problems that are bit above your level and also work insanely hard, 1900+ in 1 year would not be unreasonable.

I think the fact that you like it takes a huge part in your potential to succeed. I would say it's absolutely possible, and you should try to take parts in contests, this is what worked for me.

Good luck.

My opinion is that you should stop worrying about what is and is not possible, and just give it your best. It is a worthwhile experience whether you become red or not.

Why ask such a generic question? Becoming a red coder depends very much on one's individual aptitude and attitude for Competitive Programming. I see that you have the latter requirement. However, I am not sure of how highly skilled you are so I can't give you a yes/no answer that you may be expecting.

In short, it is possible to become red in one year (I don't know what methods you need to use though). But please don't feel sad if you don't make it within this time frame.

If you need any resources to study Competitive Programming, a quick search on Google can find you tons of them.

p.s.

This "red coder status" is something that I see many div 2 coders lusting after. However, I feel that you ought to enjoy competitive programming since you are putting so much time and effort into it. It is pointless to become red if your modus operandi is superficial (e.g. get a job in a big tech company).

Seems like it is possible to be red in 3 contests if Codeforces doesn't prevent you from becoming red.

Yes, I did it in one year and some weeks but you might get lucky with more div 1 contests. You need to focus on more and more difficult problems if you want to improve quickly, solving 50 A-C doesn't matter as much as spending time trying to break the D/E barrier (I'm sure some people also have a mental block when thinking about these problems).

Yeah i have such a mental block that D and E are hard and usually don't even read them during the contest! Man it is unbelievable how you became red in 1 year!! People try for 5+ years and don't succeed. Have you ever been scared of E's or that's why you became red in 1 year, it's cause you didn't have a mental block??

Here's my two cents on this, I think it is possible to become red in one year, but it definitely requires a lot of theory, practice and hard work. But before start, ask yourself a question: why do you want to become red? I mean competitive programming is pretty boring and useless. There are plenty of other things which you can do instead: you can apply for a job and earn some money, hang out with sexy babes or party like there is no tomorrow... It is your life and your decision, but if I were you, I would immediately delete my cf account.
