Continuing competitive programming

I'm new in the field of competitive programming and since I can't participate in the olympiads anymore I have to ask — is there any point in starting in the 12th grade to learn it and are there any competitions as important as (or more important than) olympiads? Thanks in advance!

If you don't enjoy it, don't do it, simple as that. Other than that, there's always the benefit of working out your brain and being good at job interviews.

    only thing is competitive programming is useless for any job so it's just a waste of time hobby and nothing more

      May or may not be true, but:

      1. I said job interview, not job. Most software engineering positions have algorithms in interview process.

      2. Still less useless than playing computer games for sure.

        ah, i see. you're probably a 12 year old who discovered how to write a hello world and you think you're a programmer.
        cp is pretty much useless. on the other side, by playing popular esports you can get pretty big in the industry and actually earn lots of money.

For me personally, I don't really have a good chance at making our country's olympiad team anyway. But I do competitive programming because I think that it is something enjoyable. Maybe you could try this: after you do some practice problems or a contest, think about if the time you are spending on competitive programming is worth it, or if you would rather do something else. If you would rather focus on something else, that is totally fine, but if you do enjoy it, then continue with competitive programming. Of course, if ever you become disinterested in competitive programming, then you can just stop competing without any harm. It all depends on how you feel about it and if you think it's worth your time to train on competitive programming when there are other things you can do.

If you plan on attending university, you can do ACM ICPC.

    As a follow up, what are the opportunities to continue with competitive programming after university?

    Is it just platforms (like CF, TC, AtCoder, etc) and big annual contests like GCJ, and Hacker Cup?

    More specifically, are there any well known team contests for after university?
