15:24 — Closing ceremony will start shortly and you can watch it on ICPC Live. That's probably it for this translation. Bye-bye, see you soon 15:10 — Moscow SU finished with 6

14:55 — I'll try to ask all top teams about number of problems they had solved right after the contest

14:51 — Tokyo trying to solve 2 almost simultaneously. Were they success?

14:48 — Seems like Gennady submitted B and very nervously walking in backgrounnd while Niyaz working on B. An by the wave of joy it seems they got it

14:28 — SPb SU get I quite likely. They are now seem to work on B

14:18 — Seems like SJTU got E right. Meanwhile tourist is seems to type B currently

14:08 — Based on their reaction Warsaw seems to have got something accepted. I probably would rather focus on video feeds of top teams, sorry for not fulfilling all photo requests

14:05 — Perm State University:

14:03 — Meanwhile target team got B accepted

14:00 — Samara State Aerospace University:

13:59 — Standings would be frozen shortly and I can now focus on photos

13:49 — Seems that all submited solutions of problem G is very far from correct. All of them doesn't consider one of the main cases and very slow. Meanwhile Tokyo got I right and is now in third place

13:44 — Beihang University:

13:31 — Sharif University of Technology:

13:28 — Who would be World Champions? Such a suspence...

13:22 — Kazakh-British Technical University:

13:15 — And here they go! Only G remains unsolved. Michael said, that this problem is only solvable if you dedicate whole contest for solving it. Is he right?

13:14 — Saratov SU:

13:11 — Finally some variety — SJTU solve K. Also Tokyo quite close to correct solution for B

13:07 — At this stage I want to predict that 7 problems would be enough for medal, 8 — for gold, and champion will solve at least 9

13:05 — Taiwan solved problem I with completely rewritten solution, not the one they submitted before

13:00 — Universidad Panamericana Campus Bonaterra:

12:55 — Such a little variety in what problems are soved from team to team is quite uncharacteristic for World Finals

12:51 — South China University of Technology:

12:49 — Target team solved 6 currently

12:47 — While I had lunch ITMO tried to kill what little intrigue there was for this Wolrd Finals...

12:18 — There is problems with photos sometimes, sorry for that

12:15 — Escuela Superior De Computo Instituto Politecnico Nacional:

12:12 — Meanwhile ITMO solving E, while SJTU solving K — quite a diversity

12:10 — National Taiwan University currently solving both I and G, switching forth and back

12:08 — Target team has 4 problems solved — A, C, D and E

12:07 — University of Tokyo error in C is that they do use number of vertices as maximal flow in their Dinic implemenatation

12:00 — Belarussian SU:

11:58 — Top 6 teams are currently the ones that I previewed. Maybe my predictions were not that off after all

11:55 — It seems like teams had reached bottleneck — trio of leaders solved all problems currently solved by anyone. We probably would have to wait for new changes at the top

11:44 — 5 problems are still not solved — B, E, G, I, K.

11:42 — It seems Niyaz currently finishing J for ITMO

11:41 — Novosibirsk SU:

11:24 — Taiwan's error in A was arithmetic one — they thought that 52 * 2 = 102

11:21 — Shahjalal University of Science and Technology

11:07 — ITMO is working on both C and J

11:04 — MIT:

11:02 — University of Tokyo's problem C submission not working when there is single vertex in the graph

10:54 — University of Tokyo:

10:49 — Target team (I will call them like that from now on) currenty solved F after 2 WAs and has 2 TLEs on D.

10:47 — Back to my laptop. I would focus on top team solutions and photos now

10:35 — Sorry for lack of updates — it is quite hard to write from iPad

10:19 — Problem D is solved by ITMO

10:11 — National Taiwan University got first accepted for Problem F

10:00 — Go!

9:57 — Two minute hold

9:51 — You will have mixed pleasure of viewing me in ICPC Live in about 10 minutes, about the time the contest will start

9:45 — I would accept requests for live team photos about one hour into the contest

9:40 — It seems there going to be 11 problems

9:32 — Signature "Do not touch anything" was anounced for the first time today. We would have much more of that for the next half an hour

9:26 — By the way, live has been started, currently teams are introduced

9:25 — Backstage — teams are getting ready to enter the arena

9:18 — Photo from 5 minutes ago

8:54 — Direct link to target-infused team blog

8:46 — Something to read for my Russian-speaking readers

8:34 — What team would you root for? Tell us in comments

8:20 — ICPC Live host getting ready to rumble:

8:15 — Remember, you would be able to send World Finals problems for judjing itself — log in to Kattis. Petr bmerry and meret would try to simulate World Finals participation blogging throughout the experience. I'll try to keep an eye on them as well

8:08 — Some useful links:

8:01 — Good morning from Jubilee Palace of Sports, where in just under two hours 37th annual ACM ICPC World Finals sponsored by IBM and hosted by SPb NRU ITMO will start

I want to share my prediction on 11 problems. That was obvious after prize money for first submissions was announced.
10*1050+1500 = 12k, and there was no either way to get round number.

It's a shame that result presentation has failed. I mean they rushed through 14-... places so quickly and haven't even shown the scoreboard at that point. So it was like: "no, no, no, no, and a bronze medal". I mean I understand that more people are interested in top spot, but surely there are teams for whom that border is important and even getting the medal is important. So it was disappointing to see that.

And then there's "No one solved the problem G" announcement.

As far as I know they occasionally give extra medals if the difference is pretty small. 5 minutes is a pretty small difference.

Recently, 13 medals were also given in:

    • 2010: extra silver (difference of 0) with 4 bronzes

    • 2009: extra bronze (difference of 13)

I'm aware of these facts, since I've participated in both WF 2009 and 2010 :) I think it's time to introduce an official rule for such cases (if it hasn't been already done). It isn't clear, where is the border between "pretty small" and "not pretty small". 15 minutes? 20 minutes?

For example, in 2007 there were only 2 (!) minutes between the last gold and the first silver. Why didn't they give an additional gold to Novosibirsk, but gave an additional bronze to Petrozavodsk, when they had rather big difference with the 12th place (more than 100 minutes)? Of course, the organizers of ACM ICPC can do what they want, but in my personal opinion, it's better to formulate a rule for such cases to make situation clear to the community.

Last year the team of Saratov State University took the 13th place and hasn't got a medal. Why?

    1:17:00 — 1:20:40

Short summary: Everyone [medalists] is asked to stay on the stage. Then the song "We are the champions" is sung. Everyone is asked to leave the stage.

I understand that this song is the default song for every competition, but am I the only one who found this funny, since it was basically sung by ITMO for ITMO? Furthermore, the medalists were asked to stay on stage just to listen to this song? :D Also I liked the cheerleaders who apparently got on stage for this song, stayed still for 3 minutes and then got off.

In all seriousness though, congratulations to ITMO, they deserved this.
