Seeing a person who asked a question, I answered a question yesterday on Codeforces. I, however, got a downvote (also an upvote) and now my contribution is negative.

I just want to try to help others, but it seems that it decrease my contribution. Did I do something wrong? How can I increase my contribution?

(Sorry for my poor English.)

Huh? Your contribution is +8, or did it really change in the 10 minutes you posted this?

Generally helping others will increase your contribution, as long as you are correct and not overly rude. Of course you have to know what you're talking about (some newbies sometimes talk some nonsense and then are surprised that they get downvoted). Your two comments look fine.

Sometimes downvotes will happen for random reasons but it doesn't matter if your comments get generally positive scores.

It's easier to get upvotes by writing snarky responses to people's dumb comments, duh.

Can confirm, I have 43 contribution, and it is obvious that I don't write posts on how to do FFT.
