Hello everyone,

One question came to my mind today : Assume a person got +30 in a contest. So, if s/he had 30 more points before the contest, does this mean that s/he would got 0 points with the same performance? It seems unlikely but i wanted to hear your comments.

Thanks

It would be something between 1 and 29 depending on his/her rating and number of contests (s)he taken and how recent contests was.

for more information about how ratings work, you can take a look at elo rating system.

Probably not. What you're talking about would mean that one's final rating doesn't depend on the original one, which wouldn't be good, because you wouldn't get more points by getting a good place while competing against people much better than you.
