Yeah Baby, Interview with Um_Nik!

Ok, I know it took so much time, but it worth it!

Um_nik, in one word, is a legend. After this interview I found a lot more about him.

Like what? He didn't do IOI and IMO in high school, instead he advanced to IPhO! (International Physiscs Olympiad) He is the champion of ICPC in 2020. Once, he was at the first place of CF for a few weeks (in 2018).

If you are surprised, don't be yet. The real surprise is when he says he doesn't believe in talent!

I will discuss many things with him. It took more than an hour (I wanted to keep it short, but I really couldn't, it was so good that I couldn't remove any part)

He talks about his advices to competitive programmers, his own journey, what happened after he posted the solutions of a div 3 round (during the contest lol), what he did on the 4th Dec 2016 (double lol), his opinion about many different things, and definitely I asked him your questions!

anyone can become red

It is very clear that he suffers from some form of survivorship bias. Those who don't have low to mid IQ can never truly understand why some people just can't become red.

    agree, it's so obvious that each person's abilities are limited, otherwise we would see a ton of athletes of exactly the same level in every sport

    Yes, I wonder how he will feel if Ronnie Coleman or Eddie Hall told him everyone can become as good of a bodybuilder or powerlifter as them and all they need to do is work harder, smarter etc.

    True, I've NEVER seen single redcoder who doesn't belong as follow

    • IOI/IMO or similar level of intensive math/cs training at very young age
    • started cp before 16
    • +3 sigma IQ

    to be honest I believe CM is highest achievable rating in cf with mean IQ with regular background.

        If you don't mind me asking, which IQ test did you take and what did you score? I'd honestly be surprised if it were lower than 130 but I'm ready to be proven wrong.

          IQ Tests are trainable...... Also look at his problem solve count and compare that to yours.

            Just because IQ tests are trainable doesn't make them invalid for those taking them for the first time. There are many relatively non-trainable IQ tests though, and usually, the better the test, the less trainable it is.

    I believe that the majority of slightly above average people can reach red. It's not just hard work that matters, there are people who solved 2000 problems and are still specialist. Your approach to practice and training plan is also very important.

Is the interview on April 5 or 7? You wrote April 5 in your blog and Trailer-1. But trailers 2-3 says it is on April 7.
