Congratulations: Tourist has reached a rating of 4000!

Hello,

As you may have already noticed, tourist has reached the symbolic milestone of 4000 rating points. This is the first time in the history of competitive programming. I, personally, and the entire Codeforces team, congratulate Gennady tourist Korotkevich on this incredible achievement!

Right now, we have assigned a new rank “Tourist” to the 4+ rating. This highlights the uniqueness of the moment!

However, in the future, I would like to change this name to something a bit more neutral (or leave it Tourist?). Would you help me with this?

I’d appreciate your cool suggestions in the comments!

            In the end, everybody keeps their rating and their position on the leaderboards. As such, I'm not sure if anyone would be realistically upset by this change, unless they really don't like the new rank name. For me at least, Super GM is a catchier title than Legendary GM.

            LGM should be moved up. There is no way that 50+ people here are "legendary." Out of all the LGMs, the average cf user might recognize 5 of them and consider just 1 or 2 to be truly legendary.

          Well we do have to compete with the judge, who I guess is a machine. But yeah, don't compare chess rating and codeforces ratings. In Codeforces you face off against hundreds or thousands of people in every contest and 20 in your pool for hacking. Plus they are completely different things.

I understand if it remains "Tourist" as a tribute to Gennady, but what if someone else becomes 4k+? Will it be suitable to call two persons "tourist"?     Actually the rank title is "tourist" (you can see this in the max rating section).

    However Codeforces capitalizes the first letter in the official title. This is true for other ranks as well.

I was thinking about godlike grandmaster, but it kind of highlights the fact that you are good but not god. Why not Heavenly Grandmaster.
Or a new category altogether of Sage — Eternal Sage or Immortal Sage. Because these are the people who have dedicated their entire time to cp. Maintaining this level of focus continuously for a long time is a sage like quality.

Okay, so, tourist has achieved an incredible rating, which is extremely difficult to reach. However, I'm against naming the rank beyond 4K as 'Tourist'. It wouldn't be fair, considering that Gennady isn't leading by a huge margin over jiangly and other top competitive programmers. In just a few contests, others might cross the 4K mark too. It wouldn't be right for them to get the 'Tourist' handle.

I acknowledge that tourist has contributed immensely to the CP community and is truly the GOAT, but jiangly and others aren't far behind either.

Additionally, another reason is that a position, handle, or award is usually named after someone much later, often posthumously, as a way for the world to remember them. tourist is still alive, with many more milestones to achieve, and I pray that he reaches 5000, 6000, and even higher. That's why I'm against it—he has more to go and accomplish more. I have full respect for tourist, and like me, many students started competitive programming after being inspired by his Codeforces profile. For years, he has been the one who inspired many students to pursue CP and work hard. He is truly a GOAT.

As for the handle color, it should be golden—something illustrious, like Discord Nitro, to signify the prestige of reaching this rank.

If I were to suggest some rank names, they might be:

Pioneer Grandmaster (for being the first to reach 4K)

Supreme Grandmaster

Eternal Grandmaster

Infinity Grandmaster

I'm surprised not to see GOAT on the list. It has to be GOAT here is why: Football has legends like Xavi, Zidane, etc. But they are not considered GOATS, Ronaldo and Messi are the GOATS, The Same thing can apply to CP, there are legends(legendary grandmasters) like jiangly, Radewoosh, etc. but the GOAT should be tourist. And anyone who passed the 4000 rating milestone deserves to be called GOAT.

I don't know if we've decided the tag yet or not but looking at the public demand 12k+ people are saying 4000+ should be called Tourist

But, what will happen when tourist will reach 5000... what will we call it then ?

I don't think tourist, or others as well, will ever stop perticipating and improving. So I believe it should be something genuine, personally I like the idea of "Champion"

I think it would be much cooler if you could write your own ranking title. I mean, reaching the 4,000 milestone isn't easy, so I think it would be deserved. Someday, if I get to 4k, I'd change it to something like ‘Skibidi’.

@MikeMirzayanov, it would be nice to have it named Tourist since he's the first one to reach that level, but doing so isn't a good way of naming things, ranks should be rather be independent of individuals. I would suggest it be named as quattuor wonderer, (The cardinal number 4 in spelled as quattuor in Latin and the wonderer can be a hermit trying to find something.

Lets say he's in the 4th stage of his voyage (or in the 4th floor on his way to the roof). :)
