3:01 Contest is over. Congratulations to all finalists and good job

2:32 Last half hour is upon us which mean no more updates to scoreboard. Come back tomorrow for closing ceremony and winners announcement

2:22 Eugene solved G as well. Would it be enough to clench the title?

2:15 Meanwhile Ali Haghani continues to try to solve problem H

2:05 Problem D is penultimate problem to be solved thanks to Peyman Jabbarzade. Less than an hour left in the contest, scoreboard will be frozed for the last 30 minutes

1:53 Problem G is solved as well. Only problems D and F are unsolved (though I solved them both during test run)

1:39 And finally he is successful. Meanwhile Ali Haghani tries to solve H. No luck as of yet

1:34 eatmore still debugging E — one of his asserts fails

1:22 eatmore debugging samples on E. This is also the problem I had not solved during test round (and still don't know how to solve)

1:18 No much happening near the top at the moment

1:00 One more problem is "opened" — problem C. Kudos to Ali Haghani

0:50 39 finalists solved first problems while 12 — second

0:40 During test run I solved 6 problems, but H was not one of them (I solved it within half hour afterwards though)

0:30 Top 5 solved 2 problems

0:23 A lot of correct submissions on problem A, problems B and H are also "opened"

0:10 Eryx tries to tackle first problem as well, but not successful yet

0:08 But we have our first Accepted. Congratulations to Ali

0:06 Most participants just read problem statements (there are paper ones), not yet trying to code anything

0:01 Contest is started

-0:17 Contest likely to start in 17 minutes

Most people who qualified are actually here, about 3-4 have been replaced by people further down the list. However, not many strong people actually tried to qualify, and the favorite to win, hos.lyric, canceled his participation even though he got the paid flight. I don't know why, maybe Egor can answer. EDIT: Bayan says that he and a few other people (I don't remember who) answered the invitation e-mail too late, so they could not come.

However, we should note that this isn't Google Codejam, where you would get $100 per day for food, a comfortable trip and more. They sent us here on the cheapest airline they could find, we didn't even get free water on the plane. I spent about 40 Euro on food and 10 Euro on water during the trip because the only place to buy them are overpriced airport restaurants (1.20 for a half liter of water), Bayan is not reimbursing this. I think that explains why the competition consists of low-reds and oranges instead of tourist and Petr.

EDIT: My answer to your question turned into a review of the contest, so I'll go on reviewing. The tasks were amazing, miles above any other contest I've done. Absolutely clean, no tedious implementation, just algorithms and math. Every task is unique and has some sort of idea behind it. I don't know who the problemsetters are, but they should make more contests.

The contest system worked correctly this time, with no complications.

The food they offer us is passable. Not the delicious IOI 2011 level, not the horrible SWERC 2013 level, just passable. There is some traditional Iranian salad with fruit and cabbage which is great, I'm still trying to figure out its name.

The contest room was absolutely overflowing with cameras and the contestants were swarmed with interview demands, it was never this extreme at another contest I've been at. I hope I can find a video of my interviews somewhere, can Bayan help me with this?

We're being offered sightseeing excursions, I missed the one yesterday because I needed to sleep after having a sleepless night on the plane, I'll see if today's excursion is good.

EDIT: The excursion took us to a traditional Iranian restaurant, where we sat on the floor eating traditional food. It seems that traditional Iranian food consists of green sludge, yellow sludge and brown sludge. It looks disgusting and tastes delicious. The brown sludge goes well with yogurt. After that, we got kebab for the third time in 2 days. Kebab is a staple food here, and I can say good things about a country where the staple food is meat. This changes the food rating from "passable" to "good".

Eating on the floor is interesting: It allows you to sit closer to each other in a nice circle and move around more easily, which makes socialising easier. It's a bit uncomfortable, though.

Some Bayan staff members work as a sort of tour guide for us, answering our stupid questions about Iran and Islam. They seem to be comfortable even with slightly intrusive questions, I thank them for that.

EDIT: Today, we had ice cream and fast food — the fast food was things like patty sandwiches and cordon bleu. It tasted alright, but we seem to be in a big hurry for the closing ceremony, I had to eat some food on the bus because I didn't get enough time to finish it in the restaurant. We were also in a park which had some exercise equipment, it's better than the hotel gym (park has a pullup bar, hotel gym has useless cardio machines). There were extreme amounts of extremely cute stray cats, but only one of them wanted to be cuddled. Strangely, people fed meat to these stray cats, and at least one of them was not castrated, this confuses me.

While there are some problems like horrible internet and some lack of communication, I'd say that flight/food during your journey situation is similar to what TopCoder does (cheapest reasonable tickets, no reimbursement for food at all) and Google not that far ahead

Or it seemed last night you went to "Darband" that is a great place and it's restuarants are really good in Tehran!

The reason they're not published yet is that they froze the judging & scoreboard yesterday, So no one knows whether the solution which they sumbmitted in the last 30 minutes are correct or not. So the site is still closed untill the final ceremony tonight. After that they will open the contest for practice at their website.

Here are some of my thoughts about the contest and the trip as a whole.

The problems were very good. Each problem needed some idea to solve, even the easiest one, and coming up with an idea was the hardest part of solving a problem, as it should be. The contest system worked without a glitch. On the downside, we had to wait much before the contest. We had to get up at 6:30, while the contest only started somewhere about 10:00 (I don't remember the exact time), and most of the time in between we had to wait.

Speaking of other activities, the organizers offered more than I've seen on any other onsite contest. On Thursday, we went to a restaurant with Iranian food and also visited some museums, on Friday we were to another restaurant, on Saturday we had a walk in a park and also had some ice cream. On Sunday we first were at a park where we could ride Segways, and then we had a great picnic near a stream.

Those activities took so much time that I didn't even have enough time to sleep sometimes. Also, it was hard to sleep because of the heat. On Friday evening, I got sick and couldn't sleep for that reason as well. Also I missed most of the award ceremony because of that sickness. A doctor said it was a cold.

Internet access was a real pain. Internet offered by the hotel was very slow and expensive (something like $1 for 1 hour, $5 for 7 hours, and so on). The organizers planned to give us local SIM cards to use for Internet access, but that took much time: I only got mine working on Saturday morning. The same evening, it ran out of money. Oops.

On Sunday, they managed to refill the card, so I could use it again (not that I had much time for that). My roommate, Ra16bit, didn't get a SIM card at all. Since he planned to remain in Iran for a few more days after I left, I gave him my SIM card.

When departing from IKA, I had my extension cord seized by a security officer. He didn't speak much English, and the only explanation I managed to hear from him was "it is forbidden". I knew that the trip to Iran was somewhat precarious, but I didn't expect problems so close to the ending.

As one of the authors of the contest, I'm glad you and W4yneb0t liked the problems.

And despite all the internet and airport problems you had, I think Bayan did its best to make this trip more joyful for contestants.

Actually, multiple people (including me) skipped some of the excursions in order to get enough sleep. This problem seems common in programming contests, but at least Bayan didn't complain when we skipped an excursion.
