In the announcement of Codeforces Round #503, there are too many downvotes which are inexplicable. I saw that a comment which was +30 and then changed into -1. What happened? Is there a gang of people downvoting or some people saw the downvotes and joined in it?
I'm a bit afraid of this topic being downvoted too much... But I still think this situation should get a reasonable explanation.
Lol. Humans are unpredictable. The humans in CF are even more unpredictable. That's life. So carry on with life please. If you want a place where people behave professionally, go stackexchange. That is one place where people don't anyhow downvote posters for no apparent reason.
"Professional"
meanwhile normal question gets marked as duplicate by 3 wannabe mods who saw that the keywords lined up. LOL
As I understand, there are just too much people that dislike something. Even worse, most of them are high rated, meaning that they put more than 1 downwote per person.
I have raised this subject, and I think there were replies, but now they are not shown -- looks like they were deleted. http://mirror.codeforces.com/blog/entry/48573. I was also concerned about the situation, especially because it is more like an automated censorship here in CF. And I don't like any automated censorship very much. This is one of the main reasons I left active participation in CF.
If I'm not mistaken, people may think that a particular post is dumb, offensive, not funny. The latter being very important. If you are not a certified clown, there is a high risk you will be downwoted here.
But this time not only one comment has been downvoted for no apparent reason. I can only find one '+' here now.
I'm starting to believe there are downvoting bots. I just got 13 downvotes in 7 minutes for an innocent comment regarding this issue under the linked post.
MikeMirzayanov, maybe there should be some restriction on downvotes, to prevent these downvote waves, because this situation kills the whole discussion here.
I agree, at least I can't figure out a reason why there would be a group of people downvoting almost everything for no apparent reason. It would be disturbing to know if there actually are people behaving in such a manner, deliberately downvoting everything in their sight.
I think there are downvoting bots, definitely. It's sad, because people won't risk commenting insightful/good or just casual but supportive comments for the sake of not getting their contribution down, which just ends up messing up the community and discussion.
I've got -15 contribution today. If it's possible, please erase the downvotes which are sure to be downvoting bots. If it's impossible, my contribution doesn't matter so much, at least use verification code or someting else to prevent the same thing happening again.
Just when I'm writing this comment my contribution got another -12...
There's something extremely weird happening here. My previous comment had -7 downvotes now everything has reset to 0 here (but LanceTheDragonTrainer's comment has not). Your contribution is falling too rapidly man. :/ Mike should definitely look into this, it's not normal at all.
EDIT: Now you're at -10 contribution. What?
When a blog entry gets a downvote you will lose tons of contribution.. What's more, when you get 7 upvotes and 7 downvotes each, you will lose contribution instead of staying the same. I knew this but I still wrote this, because there's something to do with it.
MikeMirzayanov, try to do something to save this situation, please.
btw, I lost another 3 contribution just now.
No one cares about contribution, let's be honest. Some of the funniest guys on here have -50.
Richers don't care about money, of course a man with +100 contribution doesn't care about contribution. I said I don't care about my contribution very much, but I didn't say no one does. I care about these downvotes because I want to know what happened. Are things I think are right wrong in other people's eyes? Now my question got the answer. I still think what he said is worth pondering. Maybe it is something more than a mischief.
Sure.
May I ask the names of these "funniest guys" who have -50 contrib?
you lol
me
Some of my downvotes has also reset to 0 just now, and my contribution is +8 now... An amazing contribution-changing-day I have to say.
No such thing as downvote bots. It's just that grandmaster votes are 15 downvotes each. Even lowly candidate master votes are 5 each.
I went over the thread and almost all of the comments are useless. "Wish for good time limit" "Time changed it's good for me" "Nice to see this guy is problemsetting". Doesn't look like fake votes to me.
Some of these comments should be downvoted (just -10 or -20 instead of -50 and -60 I think), but have you ever seen a post without a single '+'?
Huh, it does seem unusual, but after 500 rounds you should probably expect that one of them is filled with inane garbage. I saw a couple rounds before where the first 20 or so comments were all downvoted to "Click here to view" status.
After all, some of the comments do have 0 or positive score.
If so, then what was the problem with these two comments?
"As the prizes of the previous round is postponed, will there be prizes in this round?"
"I think it will be on div1 + div2 round so no."
A logical question to ask, unanswered in the announcement, and a logical answer to it. -30 and -40 votes respectively...
Thanks. I'll investigate it. Unfortunately, right now I'm busy with hosting VK Cup Finals onsite. Hope to handle it ASAP.
I guess this answers the question...
I'm a bit surprised that my guess (in the blog) is right... I think what he said is worth pondering. One person downvotes and nine people follow is more terrible than one person downvotes ten times.
we don't know if what he said is true. It may be false, as it is said on cf that unrated votes doesn't count, so he needs to compete in contest for that to happen. That being said, it is possible for him to join contest with those accounts and then downvote.
