Yes, atcoder mentioned they got a major donation recently. Surely that will be more than enough to fund an anime. They could even pass it off as a promotion effort. It's genius! Just think about it; all the weebs from far and wide will learn of Competitive Programming and will surely want to do what the anime characters do, just as I've started drinking Dr Pepper since I've seen Okabe Rintaro (my pfp) claim that it is the drink of an intellectual. Let the new era begin! Era of weeb cpers!

            An idea clicks, equations fits, time complexity satisifed, he starts typing, clicking and clacking desperately on the keyboard trying to complete the solution in the last 10 minutes... He finishes the code, compiles... ... ... Successful compilation... Sample tests passess on local machine... Uploads the code on the server... Episode ends...

            New Episode Starts The hero character goes to click submit.... He is going to press the left click... Contest has ended. Thanks for your participation... Misses the final submission by just a few seconds... Desperate, sad...

            Leaderboard Unfreezes Top 2 fails system testing.. MLE on test 149... Our hero wins on time penalty... Phewww! HE FINALLY DID IT!!!!

          I would estimate 100% of people below 25 know about cybersport. It is thousands times more popular than competitive programming. And I don't see any anime about cybersport. Why? It will be surely more popular than anime about CP, but still no one makes it.

              The top review of that anime says it's NOT about e-sports (I didn't even add the uppercase). It's some hyperfuturistic online game, a much more common genre.

                  "You" can also classify it as a magical girl anime, so what? I gather that it's not about a realistic game and it's not about the players, but a genre like VRMMO (again, as I said, quite common) with a detail that they're playing it competitively.

                  There's a huge difference between a setting that's in a game and a setting where the game is on a computer screen and the focus is on players IRL.

                  You can take a quick look at this wiki page about a team in the anime. From there, you can gather info such as:

                  • Happy is an eSports team that debuted during the qualifiers of Season 9.
                  • Wei Chen is invited by Ye Xiu to join Happy with the goal of winning the Championships.
                  • In the offline stage of the Challengers League, They lose to Trader 3:7 in the Group Stage, whilst defeating Mysterious Fantasy 10:0, and Ten Steps One Kill and Cloud Pavillion 9:1.

                  BTW the setting is also not in a game. It's about the players in real world.

                  So I obviously classify it as an esport anime. I honestly have no idea what the top review was saying. I also didn't really want to argue about this, but whatever =).

                  Edit: On its fandom wiki page, they also state that The King's Avatar is a novel about eSports.

                  I've seen this one.
                  Can confirm.. it's all about being competitive in gaming. The actual game they use is so typical that it's more about a player being so badass that he wrecks his competition and takes revenge on the people who cast him out.

    On the otherhand, a lot of weebs and anime lovers , A LOT, will get motivated to join and explore competitive programming. It's a good venture to expand the domain and increase influence.

    Also, I myself being an avid fan of anime can't wait to see something related to competitive programming. Maybe it'll be adrenaline boosting like many sports anime like haikyuu. Can't wait to find out!

        You aren't understanding what I'm saying. I am saying, there are A HUGE AMOUNT of people who love anime and are very fond of it. And if such an anime is made, out of that whole community a lot of people who may not know about competitive might get introduced to the concept.

        Lot of weebs didn’t know what go was either until Hikaru no Go came around. Now a very large body of western go players credit Hikaru no Go as the reason they started playing.

            Really? In my memory go was basically unknown in the west (aside from weebs) before DeepMind whipped everybody. But you can’t discount the fact that even if many people knew about it (which was not really the case), HnG was the catalyst to start playing for a significant number of people.

Spoiler: the last episode will be dark room with computers. On the one side there will be bunch of experts and CM's writing unreliable heuristics and optimising constant shouting "MUDAMUDA" and on the other the warrior awoo writing tricky testcases dismoraling opponents with epic phrases.

    Jokes apart, I would like to take a moment here and point something out ( this is how I feel, my personal opinion ).

    It takes just a few lines to complaint or disregard someone, but too many lines ( as is evident here ) to compliment and praise them.

    It is a phenomenal task that rng_58 and all others at Atcoder are doing. They dedicate a lot of time for every contest they hold, even the beginner contest. They obviously have people on the watch during the contest which lasts 1hr 40mins. Then, post the contest ( atleast for ABC ) they have a LIVE YouTube stream explaining all the questions and solving queries in the chat. Which is usually long, but let's count it as 1hrs 45mins on average. Apart from these approximately 3hrs, they must be preparing before the round and packing up after the stream. All in all, they dedicate almost 5 hrs ( maybe even more, I can't comprehend it ), to help others and contribute to the coding community.

    Also, adding on, even if they serve only a limited portion of the community, if you do watch their streams ( I have, and even though I see a lot of anime, I wouldn't say I'm proficient in Japanese and can't understand quickly spoken Japanese ), they explain everything on the whiteboard, and if you have thought about that problem during the round, the diagrams / illustrations on the whiteboard itself should strike some chords towards the solution. Adding further, after explaining the whole problem and solution, they also implement it then and there, during the stream. And if you thought of the solution correctly but got stuck in the implementation, that should help you out.

    Further adding, even all this praise is just few words for them. Who knows, even after they do so much, all they get is responses like you gave. But still they are doing something huge. I would like to thank everyone at Atcoder, and not only Atcoder, but Codeforces, Codechef and all competitive programming sites that have enabled many people to practice and improve and given opportunities to everyone to participate in their contests and also provide editorials etc to help everyone.

    It is not something you can just speak bad about and get away with. I absolutely loathe the way you react, without thinking about it from the givers' perspective. I would kindly ask you to apologize for your comment, and consider in hindsight what you have ever done for anyone, that you deserve a full live stream video on a contest in your language of preference and at your convenience.

      I can assure you that they spend much more time than that, preparing the problemset takes days (and for Grand Contest they need to come up with the ideas (which is mostly the hardest part), preparing the data and stuff takes days especially when there are some difficult wrong solutions to fail. Preparing a good contest can take even months from the beginning of preparation to the day of contest.

        Of course I understand that. I was trying to point out that it is ATLEAST that many hours, at the bare minimum. And, that analysis was for the day of the contest only. I agree that many days are spent making each problem. There are a lot of factors to keep in mind too, when making a contest. And I don't know what else, because I haven't been part of any such event.

        As I said, it is a phenomenal thing that everyone ( Atcoder, Codeforces, Codechef etc ) is doing, and that too religiously, again and again.

        I apologise if it seemed as if I was underestimating them by that calculation. I really want to thank the whole community of problem setters, editorialists, everyone who is involved in any way in management and unhindered completion of each contest/event.

Well, there is an anime about anime. And also this weird shit.

I can see how it'd work — by not making it about competitive programming — but I bet you're not thinking about logistics at all. Who will make it, who will read it, who will publish it and who will pay for it?

  • Do you want to treat it as a commissioned comic? Go ahead, get someone who can draw well, make a crowdfund for it. We'll see if it keeps getting enough money.
  • Is it supposed to be a free hobby thing? Who will do it for free on a consistent basis?
  • Do you want to make it more than a niche thing? You don't have much of a choice except going through a publisher, and good luck pitching that idea to a comic publisher.

Animating is a whole other pile of work.
