Hello everyone! The first round of the 8VC Venture Cup 2017 will be held on Sunday.

I am honoured to be the problemsetter of the round. Reyna helped me a lot. Huge applause to KAN for his valuable coordinator's help, and MikeMirzayanov for his admirable work for the Codeforces comunity. I also want to thank testers very much (Alexey ashmelev Shmelev and Alex AlexFetisov Fetisov).

This round is a first stage of 8VC Venture Cup 2017. If you want to acknowledge yourselves with the competition, try here.

The main character of the round is PolandBall. It's a small friendly Ball who lives in a forest along with other Balls. You'll surely like it :)

I tried to fulfill your demands with a various, interesting and challenging problems described in a concise way.

Hello Codeforces!

I'm pleased to announce the first championship hosted on the Codeforces platform. Welcome 8VC Venture Cup 2017!

8VC will be hosting a coding championship on Codeforces. The championship will begin on January 15 and take place in 2 rounds.

The contest will occur in two rounds:

• The Elimination Round is online and takes place on January 15, 17:05 (UTC). Elimination Round follows regular Codeforces rules and consists of 7-8 problems. For this round, the complexity of the problems will be comparable to a regular Codeforces round. There are no eligibility restrictions to participate in the round.
• The Final Round takes place on January 22, consists of 5-6 problems, and uses regular Codeforces rules. The complexity of the problems is higher than a regular Codeforces round. We will invite the top local finishers in Elimination Round to Woodside, CA to compete in the Final Round. In addition, we will invite the top 200 overall finishers to compete online.

Cool prizes are offered to winners and best participants.

• Overall 2nd place — $1000
• Overall 3rd-5th places — $500 each
• Overall 1-50th place — t-shirts with 8VC and company logos

Рад сообщить, что сегодня в 17:35 MSK состоится первый в новом году раунд Codeforces Round #390 для второго дивизиона. Традиционно, участники из первого дивизиона смогут принять участие вне конкурса.

Подготовкой раунда занимался я, Алексей netman Вистяж.

Выражаю благодарность Николаю KAN Калинину за помощь в подготовке задач и Михаилу MikeMirzayanov Мирзаянову за платформы Codeforces и Polygon.

Участникам будет предложено пять задач и два часа на их решение.

Разбалловка будет объявлена к началу раунда.

Во время контеста было несколько проблем — в задаче C первый претест не совпадал с первым тестом из условия, и, к сожалению, эта задача была решена намного хуже, чем мы ожидали. Я сделал выводы и в следующий раз я буду оценивать сложности задач более ответственно.

Hello, everybody!

Some of clever you maybe already noticed, 2016-2017 ACM-ICPC China Finals were already available in gym several days ago, and I'm glad to share another contest with you on this weekends.

China Collegiate Programming Contest is a local algorithm contest held since last year. This year, it has 3 regional as well as 1 finals. The finals have been hold 2 weeks ago before the ACM-ICPC China Finals, many of us regarded it as a rare practice chance before the latter one.

I think most of you on Codeforces haven't seen the problems yet, so this time, I'd like to schedule a virtual contest with you guys on 2017, Jan. 7th, 12:30:00 (MSK).

Привет, Codeforces!

Новый год приносит изменения в состав команды Codeforces. Как вы уже, наверное, знаете GlebsHP завершил свою работу в качестве главного координатора Codeforces. Глеб, спасибо большое! Ты сделал отличную работу, помог провести большое количество интересных раундов. Ты настоящий профессионал, интересный человек, у тебя безупречный вкус к задачам, и сам ты зарекомендовал себя ярким и талантливым автором. Спасибо, что ты был с нами! Надеюсь еще не раз увидеть твои задачи на Codeforces!

На смену Глебу пришел Николай KAN Калинин. Он тоже опытнейший участник, уже провел в качестве координатора несколько раундов. Николай серьезно занимается программированием с седьмого класса (12 лет). Его основные достижения: дважды выигрывал ВКОШП, один раз Всероссийскую олимпиаду школьников (1 место!), два золота на международной олимпиаде школьников (2013, 2014), бронза в финале ACM-ICPC 2016 и третье место на RCC 2016. Это высочайший уровень! Я очень рад, что Николай присоединился к команде Codeforces. Уверен, у нас всё получится!

А вот вам первое нововведение 2017-го года. Идея упорядочивания работы с заявками уже давно крутилась у меня в голове. Получилось удачно — новый координатов задач Codeforces Николай KAN Калинин приехал в Саратов из родного Нижнего Новгорода, чтобы познакомиться со всей командой и вместе встретить Новый год. Мы не только отлично пообщались, но у нас выдалось некоторое время вместе обсудить и продумать детали работы с авторами. Вот что получилось.

В декабре в грантовой программе фонда Botan Investments участвовали 15 университетов — традиционно в декабре и январе количество участников сокращается в связи с праздниками и сессией. По количеству тренировок на Codeforces за месяц лидирует УГАТУ (УФА) — там в декабре провели 7 тренировок. Больше всего студентов удалось привлечь в УрФУ и УГАТУ (25 и 19 человек соответственно).

В блоге Михаила droptable Рубинчика в нашей группе ВК за этот месяц вышло несколько интересных постов, посвященных работе со школьниками, обучению новичков программированию, подготовке задач как части тренировок и пользе для АСМщика от подготовки задач.

В этом месяце мы снова предлагаем вам интересный рассказ от наших преподавателей — Алексея Lo_R_D Усманова, Анастасии Логутовой и Владлена himaniman Сурица из ДВГУПС:

В далёком Хабаровске набирает популярность традиция отмечать победителей и участников соревнований по олимпиадному программированию специально изготовленными памятными брелками. Они были спроектированы и распечатаны на 3D принтере усилиями студентов ДВГУПС. Каждый отдельный брелок имеет свой уникальный номер.

Как-то так получается, что лично для меня каждый следующий Новый год значит всё больше. Это отличный повод подвести итоги, перехватить воздух, пережить своеобразный катарсис. Это редкая возможность побыть с семьей, нарядиться в Деда Мороза и просто повеселиться.

Еще праздники дарят мне четкий критерий того, что я занимаюсь правильным для себя делом. Если в праздники я начинаю думать об этом деле, вспоминать какие-то отложенные идеи, горю желанием реализовать что-то новое. Значит это оно. Твоё. Настоящее. И вот уже который год я под самый Новый год и сразу после него коммичу в Codeforces новое, вникаю в новую технологию или просто вношу мелкую правку в testlib. Надо мной в этот момент не стоят никакие сроки, не давят обязательства. Просто именно сейчас, в 3 часа ночи я не могу оторваться от того, чтобы сделать что-то новенькое. Хочется воспользоваться моментом и реализовать то, что крутилось в голове весь год, а времени на это так и не находилось.

Я безумно рад огромному числу (9144!) регистраций на Good Bye 2016. Именно ваше желание развиваться, узнавать новое, решать и придумывать задачи, совершенствовать навыки и просто соревноваться дает силы и желание развивать платформу.

Я желаю вам не терять огонь в глазах, когда вы встречаете интересную задачу. Желаю продолжать находить удовольствие в контестах и раундах. Желаю развиваться, решать всё более сложные, интересные задачи. Побед и достижений! Пусть в новом году решится то, что не решилось в 2016-м!

The contest is combined for both divisions, lasts 2.5 hours and contains 8 problems. Thanks to Harbour.Space and Barcelona ACM-ICPC Programming Bootcamp 2017 sponsoring the contest, winners can expect really cool prizes:

• 5 best participants (not ACM ICPC veterans) will win free participation in Hello Barcelona programming bootcamp.
• 30 best participants (not ACM ICPC veterans) will receive a 30% discount for participation in Hello Barcelona programming bootcamp.

Obviously, problems will be about the New Year and a little polar bear whom you might know. Since you will face one interactive problem, please read the Interactive Problem Guide in advance.

Don't forget to register. I wish you great fun and no frustrating bugs.

UPD1: The points drop will be adjusted to the round length. It means that for submitting e.g. at the end of the contest gives the same percent of points as in usual 2-hour rounds. Also, I remind you that there will be an interactive problem (as mentioned above).
