I am sure that actual cutoff for top100 is higher, because you missed a lot of people :)

Checked some people in my list, quite a lot of them have 175+ while being out of top200 by rating and contribution.

Simple example: Darooha.

    You are right. One more example is nfssdq. The list contains only top of the tops (by rating or contribution).

    If for example there are 1000 people from same institution registered in CF , but they don't interact with CF forums nor they have high ratings, and they are pairwise friends, does that make them popular? we should say they are only locally popular.

    I think that taking only top200 from rating and contribution is good restriction in general but Darooha is an exception since he's well known scientist :D

I wonder what are possible reasons for having many friends. When I noted that I am a friend of 250 users I was surprised by that high number and thought that it's because I'm spamming a lot and doing not so bad in contests. However on that list there are people with more friends than me whose nicks I see for the first time o0. Other reason I can think of is being toprated within a big country, however that still is not explaining everything.

    I added you because I like to compare my progress with different reds and yellows who participate regularly (in a contest, I mostly look at the friends leaderboard). The spamming is exactly the reason you are one of them ;)
