Mike said that they will likely make the streams tab hideable, but it probably takes time. On the other side, implementing a simple userscript took me 5 minutes, so here it is:

To install a userscript, you can use the Tampermonkey extension, or if it is not secure or does not work with your browser, google what you should use for yourself. Anyway it is probably a temporary option. There is also another way provided by dpaleka.
