Task 1

This construction is built on three observations:

1. The XUM value of a permutation $$$p$$$ can be expressed as $$$\sum_{i=0}^{n} \sum_{j=i+1}^{n} a_i \oplus a_j$$$, where each $$$a_i$$$ is the prefix XOR of the first $$$i$$$ elements of the permutation.

2. For any fixed bit (say the $$$i$$$th bit) that appears $$$c_i$$$ times among the numbers $$$0$$$ to $$$n-1$$$, it must appear at least $$$\lceil \tfrac{c_i}{2} \rceil$$$ times in the prefix XOR array. If we can make a construction that achieves this for each bit, then it will be optimal.

Probalistic Solution

To determine whether nodes $$$u$$$ and $$$v$$$ are compatible, we check the following conditions:

• First Condition → $$$v$$$ must be in the subtree of $$$u$$$.
• Second Condition → The difference between the subtree size of $$$u$$$ and $$$v$$$ must be even.
• Third Condition → The maximum frequency of any value in the remaining nodes must be at most half of the remaining nodes.

How to Check the Third Condition Efficiently:

• Perform DFS to compute the Euler tour, entry, and exit time of each node.
• Maintain a 2D array, where for each unique value, we store the indices of nodes having that value in the Euler tour.
• Randomly pick nodes from the remaining set and check their frequency. To find the frequency of a value in the remaining nodes, we count its occurrences in $$$u$$$ ’s subtree using its entry and exit times, then exclude occurrences in $$$v$$$ ’s subtree. The difference gives the frequency. If the frequency is more than half of the remaining nodes, pairing is impossible.
• If we repeat the previous step approximately $$$30$$$ times, then if there is a node value with a frequency greater than half of the remaining nodes, the probability that it is not picked is at most $$$2^{-30}$$$, which is extremely small.

Time Complexity: $$$O(n + q*30*log(n))$$$

Deterministic Solution

Flatten out the tree using a Euler tour, such that each subarray forms a continuous subarray. For pair of nodes $$$(u,v)$$$, the nodes form two disjoint subarrays $$$(tin[u],tin[v]-1)$$$ and $$$(tout[v]+1,tout[u])$$$ in the flattened array.

Main Observation: For the most frequent element to constitute at atleast half of the remaining nodes, it must be one of the maximum frequency elements from either the first or second subarray. This is because if its frequency is less than half in both segments, it cannot exceed half overall.

You can find the max frequent element and its frequency using a segment tree and query for other segment using an ordered set.

The first step is to realize the solution to a well known dp problem for finding $$$f(A)$$$ for a given array. We define $$$dp[i][0]$$$ to be the maximum sum for elements $$$A_1 ... A_i$$$ where we do not pick element $$$i$$$ and can pick element $$$i+1$$$. In $$$dp[i][1]$$$, we may or may not pick $$$i^{\text{th}}$$$ element. This ensures that $$$dp[i][1] \gt =dp[i][0]$$$ $$$\newline$$$ The transition will be such $$$dp[i][0]=dp[i-1][1]$$$ and $$$dp[i][1]=max(dp[i][0],dp[i-1][0]+a[i])$$$ where $$$dp[n][1]$$$ will be the answer for entire array. $$$\newline$$$ We can maintain $$$dp[i][1]-dp[i][0]$$$ as one of the states of DP of the original problem where only on basis of this difference, future elements would be picked. Case 1: $$$k \geq 3$$$

If we choose three or more vertices, notice that every pair of chosen vertices will yield a unique simple path. For the MEX on any path to be greater than $$$1$$$, every such path must contain both $$$0$$$ and $$$1$$$. However, in a tree the intersection of all these paths (considering every pair among $$$k$$$ vertices) can only be a single vertex.

Thus, for $$$k \geq 3$$$, the answer will be $$$1$$$ till $$$k$$$ is equal to the degree of node $$$0$$$ plus one, else it is $$$0$$$.

Case 2: $$$k = 2$$$

The problem becomes simpler when $$$k = 2$$$. In this case, we are just looking for a pair of vertices such that the unique path between them has the maximum possible MEX. A simple approach for this is to perform a binary search on answer i.e. final mex value. When querying for the first $$$k$$$ nodes, find the node with highest dfs in-time. If a path exists, this node is guaranteed to be an endpoint. We can run a dfs from the node with the highest dfs in-time and check for path.

Time Complexity: $$$O(nlogn)$$$
